hey, everybody. I just wanted to ask you guys a question. I have been playing and digitally recording a lot of stuff lately, and some of my friends wanna hear it. I record mostly in WAV format (I know, it sucks, but it's all my computer is capable of), and I'm just looking to find it if there is a place where I can upload my wavs online for free, and if there is no place to do so with that format, a SIMPLE recording program (also free, please) to record in whatever medium is needed to upload.

thanks...

Ryan.

Try converting your wav files to Mp3 files, a great free program for this is Audacity. A good free one for recording is Kristal. You can probably easlily find these witha serch engine.
Wav files are around 10 times as big as mp3 files, which would not only take people a long time to download, but try finding someone to host you're 50mb files ;)

i dont know about any free music hosting though, check if you're ISP gives you any free space, they often do, or mayeb for a little ,onthly fee

Try using

Musicmatch, which can be downloaded for free, to convert your existing wave files to mp3 formats, I think that can be done.

I second the recommendation about Krystal, you can find a link to it at:

www.pcmus.com.

Have fun.

great

thanks guys, for the tips. I'm downloading kristal. I'm gonna need a new adapter, I think, for some reason my computer won't record correctly from my Roland Cube 30. I'll do it open mic for now, it's good enough.

I was able to record with Kristal...

but I can't increase the volume any. My windows mic volume settings are maxed, but the recorded volume is way too low. I don't have that problem with Audacity. In both cases I am using the pre-amp out of my amp into the "mic in" of the PC.

Recording in WAV is the standard. It's better fidelity than MP3 but the files are huge.

SoundClick is free and I've posted my songs there as well. (See my link below.)

Audiograbber and Music Shuffler convert from wave to mp3 via software. I think the downloads are free but, I don't have any links here at work.

Good luck and be sure to tell us where we can hear your music!

is audacity good?

Well, you can't beat the price... as it's free. It depends on what you want to do with it. It is great for quick recording of single .wav files. You can multi-track - and you can record subsequent tracks while previously recorded tracks are playing, but there is a latency issue - you will have to edit each track to sync it up with the others (I find this process do-able but somewhat tedious). FWIW, I think this is an issue with any program you use with a basic PC set up - extra gear is required to get rid of the latency problem.

Cristal mystery

on the main screen of the audio engine, left side you will see a box listing waver1 etc. Beneath waver 1 are 5 buttons. Click buttons 2/3/4 to record. The volume spikes will show in the vertical box to the right of these buttons.

If it is not visible hit F2 to get the Transport bar which will start the recording or play back session using 'VCR' style buttons. This also has your metronome and a precount prior to starting the recording or play back.

Hit F3 to get the mixing console to edit each track. You can increase or decrease volume, add two effects to each track. Click on the No FX tab to get a selection of effects. The controls will resemble a mixing board.

Depending upon the type of sound card in your pc you may not be able to hear if you connect directly to your PC. I solved this by using my amp's expansion out jack to carry the sound. On my bass amp it has a tuner out put that I use to carry the sound back to the pc so I can hear what I play but the volume on this out put is not adjustable so be cautious if you use that method.

Hope this helps.

thanks dude

but much to confusing. I did get kristal working, but I don't want the big process to just record two or three tracks. I got audacity and it is actually extremely useful and easy, and I can just convert to MP3 externally. I signed up for SoundClick, me and my keyboardist (freak music prodigy-he's 14 and can improvise incredible 10 minute piano songs and, although he don't play the guitar, he can write a mean chord progression on my tele in a blink) are getting together in the next two days, we'll probably lay down some good stuff...only issue is the mic jack on my basement computer, where we play, is screwed up and won't accept my recording mic....

oh well...

anyway, I'll post a SounClick link when me and him get together and lay some stuff down. Thanks fer all yer help...
