I really like Jars of Clay's version of I'll Fly Away.
Third day has a really great Southern Rock feel.

Thanks...........I admit to be an old player, but fairly new to Christian music. I was in rock, blues and country in the '60s through the '80s, southern gospel for many years and now am helping with the church band. Great fun. Thanks

That's a good idea about the riff from :Crossroads.. I'll have to try that.
I've got a guitar player who plays a mean slide guitar as well.

    On The Way Home

I speak to anyone who is lost within himself
And cannot see the light of day
Believing nothing you can't see or touch or smell
Your god is dead and you're afraid

What would it take to make you change your mind
You could wake up one day and find
    Your not your name
And you might touch the sun
And know that you are everyone
    No picture in a frame

    On the way to Jesus
    On the way home

    On the way to Jesus
    On the way home

I, too, am searching for a light to guide my way
The path is long but it's not wide
I tried to find it in the words that people say
God only knows how hard I've tried

I can only say I've played my role
And listen to the music of my soul
    I played the game

But sometimes it gets so hard it seems
To know what's really right for me
I'll make it, just the same

    On the way to heaven
    On the way home
    On the way to heaven
    On the way home
    On the way to heaven
    On the way home

    I'm on my way
    Yes I am
    Here I come
    Alright

    I'm on my way
    Yes I am
    Here I come
    Oh, yeah

    Can't you hear me Lord
    I'm coming
    Can you hear me Lord
    I'm coming
    Coming home
    Yes, I am
    Coming home
    Yes, I am

    Yeah, yeah, yeah
    Yeah, yeah, yeah
    Oh, yeah
    Yes, I am

    I'm on my way
    Can't you hear me?
    Can't you see me?
    Do you know me?
    Will you see me?
    Here I come
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Here I come

I'm on my way to heaven
    Yes, I am
    Heaven
    Here I come
    Heaven
    On my way home
    Heaven
    Here I come
    Heaven
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Heaven
    On my way home
    Heaven
    One more time
    Heaven
    Yeah, yeah, yeah

    On my way to heaven
    On my way home

    On my way to heaven
    On my way home

    On my way to heaven
    Yes I am
    Heaven
    Here I come
    Heaven
    Here I come
    Heaven
    Heaven

    On the way to heaven
    On the way home

    On the way to heaven
    On the way home

    On the way to heaven
    On the way home

For Bible stories, try "Creeping Death" by Metallica. And I'm only 1/2 joking....

    For seriousness, go with Keaggy.

Check out "Sweet Comfort Band" from late 70's early 80's. Great southern rock band.

    "All You Zombies"
    The Hooters (80's)

    Holy Moses met the Pharaoh
Yeah, he tried to set him straight
    Looked him in the eye
    "Let my people go"

    / Dm Am C G / Dm Am G - / 1st / F EmC Am - /

    Holy Moses on the mountain
    High above the golden calf
Went to get the Ten Commandments
Yeah, he's just gonna break 'em in half

    {Refrain}
All you zombies hide your faces
All you people in the street
All you sittin' in high places
The pieces gonna fall on you

No one ever spoke to Noah
They all laughed at him instead
    Working on his ark
    Working all by himself

    Only Noah saw it coming
    Forty days and forty nights
Took his sons and daughters with him
    Yeah, they were the Israelites

    {Refrain}
The rain's gonna fall on you

    Holy Father, what's the matter
Where have all your children gone
    Sitting in the dark
    Living all by themselves
You don't have to hide any more

    {Refrain, except:}
All you zombies show your faces...
The pieces gonna fall on you

All you zombies show your faces, I know you're out there
All you people in the street, let's see you
All you sittin' in high places
It's all gonna fall on you

That shelter me song is Sweet!!! I just listened to it and I really want to sing it for my church now!!!...

If you want some good ideas. Go to youtube and type in any random hymn with the word blues or southern or rock and lots of neat stuff will pop up.

Audio Adrenaline has a really good version of "Free Ride"

+1 on the Third Day, their new album Move has some great Rockers on it.

We've done U2's When Love Comes to Town before, that was fun...
