Guitar Madness on eBay or Donlis on AliExpress.
Bootstrap. I've got a set of Sun City Selects. Amazing quality. Warm, articulate, great value. On a level with Custom Shop gear.
Also available under the brand Tonerider.
Alrighty, thanks for the many great ideas!
I'll try and see if Bootstrap can get them done in a reasonable timeframe-a couple weeks is alright, 6 months is another thing altogether. After that, either the Wilkinsons or the GM Premium sets look like like winners from my viewpoint-the GM Premium is voiced fairly similar to a Tx Special set (6.4k, 6.4k, and 7k) so they do have that going for them.
Let's see what Monday brings, when Bootstrap will be open...
I push this brand a lot https://www.byoguitar.com/Guitars/Storm-Vintage-Strat-Pickup-Set__BYO-STORM-SET.aspx because I'm hoping we will see more genuinely "boutique" grade pickups from overseas. I can't believe BYO is currently the only one doing it. They're better than GFS and cheaper than Tonerider.
Bootstrap '54 sparkle pickups are excellent.
The guys name at bootstrap is Ryan just send them an email and ask him he’ll tell you. They are a legit operation
We’ll have a ~3 week lead time when we re-open, but the plan is that will continue to shrink as we are now able to fill about 150% of our daily average order volume so the order queue seems to be going in the right direction.
Alrighty, I'll send you the gory details via email then!
Hotter than TexMex would be Fender Deluxe drive.
Fender Tex Mex STRAT pickups aren't the cheapest you can buy, but they're relatively inexpensive ($75 a set) and they really do sound g - r - E - A - T. (Spoken in the voice of Tony the Tiger.)
same here - the best and unbeatable prices. I have a custom wound set based on the Golden Ale set and a stock Oatmeal Stout set in another Strat - a little hotter than Tex Mex pickups I have in a third start, but the Oatmeal Stouts have more clarity and much are much better balanced. For $50 a set? No brainer!
Boot Strap pickups are about $50 for a set of three I think.
Plus 1 on the Tex mex pickups I’d put them up against any aftermarket Strat pickups
Guitar Madness 62z are vintage spec alnico Vs that are $25 a set with free shipping at his Ebay store. I've put them in several guitars, and they sound as good to me as the Yosemites in my Am Performer, the V-Mods in my Am Pro, or the new Fender designed CV pickups in my CV 70s Strat, and better than many more costly pickups I've used from Dimarzio, Tonerider/Squier, and Fender. I just replaced the CS Texas Specials that I had in an inexpensive Oscar Schmidt Strat with the 62z, and they brought that guitar back to life, when it was very bland with the Texas Specials. It now oozes the vintage Strat tone and feel as well as any Strat I own. They aren't just great for their price, but would be great at any price.
I gave my Sunburst MIM Strat with Duncans to a friend. She replaced them with Bootstrap '57 and loves them.
I put a set of GFS vintage staggered PUs in a Strat and the sound as good as any PUs I have heard. I'd happily run them in another guitar.
That said, I do like supporting the underdog and have heard nothing but good stuff about Bootstrap PUs.
Bootstrap make great pickups and their prices can’t be beat. I haven’t tried a Strat set yet but I love my Jazzmaster pickups, slug P90s, and I’m installing a set of their vintage buckers in my Wilshire.
I also like Rose Pickups though their prices went up a bit. I’ve installed the Robusta set in my Strat, and a Buff Beauty bridge/Robusta neck in my HB Prinz Tele.
Sorry if this was already mentioned but Bootstrap 100%
