This thread badly needs an update by the OP. It has heaps of potential, song, concept album, play, movie rights.

I can't even drive but texted a friend who also can't drive re the 7.3 as we're both interested in things like engines, him more so than me, he could probably tell you what the differential is on that truck.

I bought my first truck, a 1969 F-100 in mid-1972 and have owned a pickup truck of some type for all but six months of my life ever since. Those six months taught me that I just plain need a truck, and I was miserable until I picked up another used one. I’ve had six Fords and two Toyotas.

Unless you really do need the $ I’d keep that puppy. I’ve had my Tundra since I bought it new over 13 years ago and figure I’ll drive it until I get so thoroughly decrepit that I can’t use it anymore. It’s in pretty good shape and it’ll cost far less to own even if I replaced the engine and tranny—both highly unlikely—than a new truck, and I don’t really like the new trucks anyway.

I’d think about it for a long while before selling it.

Talking with a friend of mine, who sold a little Tacoma 4x4 that she'd bought for $ 6,000, with 245,000 miles on it, for $ 14,000 with 365,000 miles on it and I told her, that was a brilliant move.

But then, she bought a big Ram diesel pickup to replace it (2020, fuel still reasonable) and this year, she's been giving her windfall back one tankful at a time.

I have no solutions, but in 1999 I bought a Ford Ranger XLT. Not beefy like yours, but a 2.5L Styleside with a 5-speed manual transmission. It moved me from the midwest to both coasts of the U.S. and back many times over, moved countless friends, performed numerous rescue missions and played out all my whims.

In 2015, when it was around 200K miles, I found myself in the same position you are in. I sold it to a guy that drove a dump truck for a living. Last thing he said to me before he got into it and drove off was "I'm so glad to now have a Winter Beater". That's a tough thing to hear from someone who bought a vehicle new, and knew every single thing about it.

FYI, that's what everyone else is going to see that truck as. 15 years of owning a vehicle isn't ownership anymore- it's a relationship. Under my care that Ranger would have gone another 200K miles. I know it, and it knew it. I almost feel like I let it down by selling it to someone else.

I didn't think of this stuff until it was gone. I only saw it one other time after I sold it, and I don't know what happened to it after that. Maybe the guy I sold it to beat the crap out of it and it died.
I feel your pain, Brother.
Had a '99 Explorer Sport.
Best vehicle I will EVER own hands down.
Bought it almost new. Drove it 16 years.
Taught both boys to drive in it.
Went on countless Scout campouts, hunting trips, etc.
One happy opening day we managed to cram a pair of nice sized muley bucks in it.
4.0 V6 Ford motor got 21 on the highway.
Tags cost me around $40 a year and insurance was way cheap.
Would climb a tree - all with stock suspension and drivetrain.
No accidents or fender benders (except when #2 Son hit the DQ sign - long story).
After 16 years, I discovered I'd bought everybody in the house at least 1 and often 2 cars ... so I decided to unload it while it was running great.
If I'd had an extra garage bay, I'd have kept it. Absolutely no question.
Was so sad to see it go, but ...

Yeah, I like red.

I'm glad someone understands. I still look around on CL for my old truck. I'm not sure what I'd do if I find it.
