By "new" I mean "vintage" Avion stopped making aluminum campers about 1989, this one's a 1983 34V like my last one. (without the fire damage)
I'd be on the road now in the 81 Dodge W250 but a friend of mine insisted on going with his newer Dodge turbo diesel. A hand changing six tires sounded good to me, and his pickup has a radio.
Asked him yesterday what time we'd take off, "depends on how drunk I get tonight" was the answer. So I asked where he was going last night. Two places, first to a buddy's to finish up a transmission rebuild for another Dodge pickup, there will be beer, then to some mutual friends for a drink. That particular couple probably do more business at the local liquor store than most bars.
I'm hoping the lights all work on that damned old camper!
Really regretting accepting the offer for help now. . . . .

Wow nice. Saw an all white avion while camping last year. Airstream quality.

    Enjoy your new camper!

I learned long ago to ALWAYS take my own ride if I have something to do.

    Better than Airstream quality !
Well that's what the Avion people say anyway. This one like my last is from 1983, at the time they had independent suspension and spray foam insulation. I really don't know if the independent suspension makes a difference, my buddy that drove has pulled a lot of camper and he was impressed.
The spray foam I tested the winter before last in my last one down to minus 40. Walls on a camper are like an inch thick, it definitely makes a huge difference!

As it turned out we never turned on the radio. His pickup is a Dodge with the Cummins diesel, engine is so loud we had a hard time talking. He bought it used and it has a different exhaust system. If it was mine I'd change that!

Didn't take to many shots today, it's a tin can, they all look alike. Side shot is after we got the new rims and tires on and pulled it out of the barn. Back shot was after I scrubbed a little dust and barn stuff off. I've got more cleaning to do, the roof is black.
Interior is half torn apart and needs a lot of cleaning. I'll probably remodel it in the process.
Of course the original problematic plastic plumbing all needs to be changed. The stuff they used on about every camper in the 70s and 80s is best just changed out straight away. The fittings break at the most inconvenient times.
Had three other brand campers from that era and woke up to wet floors and came back to a flooded camper a time or two. I'll replace it all with PEX, did that on the last one too. 20210410_195035_HDR.jpg 20210410_142935(1).jpg

Very nice. Reminds me of the “square streams” of that era.
