There are metals inside tubes that can be toxic.

Man.... saw it in the theater when it came out and to this day it's got to be the most freaked out I ever was, over a movie no less LOL!!!
Disturbing but wonderful... dare I watch it again...

You say failed. Can you define failed eg; old age, poor emmisions etc.

By the appearance of the getter.How will you know if the vacuum seal was the problem if you break the vacuum seal?
The one in the middle has lost its vacuum.
The one on the right is still sealed.
All three tubes failed in the last three years, in the same champ.
The PEAVEY tube lived a long hard life. It most likely failed of old age. The glass is actually clear.
The older EH tube, getter in the base. It lost vacuum as evidenced by the white color near the base. I don’t think the white color was obvious when I replaced the tube. I am glad I kept it to understand what probably happened. The grids of the PEAVEY tube are visible. The grids on all three tubes looked fine
the newer EH with the getter on top. This tube was damaged but still functioned after the stock under spec cathode resistor heated up and the under spec cathode cap blew up.
Final score
one out of three failed tubes appears to have been defective and had a short life.

you know, I have been playing tube amps (mostly Fender) since 1967, when I was 13. I have never had a power tube failure until recently, when a brand new tube blew up.
That's interesting man. I've had em fail on me or get weak?, but maybe it has to do with other factors too. I'll say that I had a Chinese made tube, 6v6gt, literally break on me recently! First time I've ever experienced that. The glass just shattered into 100 pieces... it was a real mess. Had to remove the chassis to get all that fragments out. I have no idea what would've caused it, other than just cheapo glass? Dunno.
