The God is Love you are referring to is high energy, and can really get you in a "high" and get lost in the music. I will also enjoy playing this music, very captivating and truly elating music.
I love this song Ascension - Bravo!!!

This is the first time I heard this song, and I truly love it!!!
I love the guitar solos and the vocals, and most especially, the lyrics and the message.
Not to mention, 13 minutes, very nice! I could not touch the stop button - lovely!!!

Love the Helsers and we do a lot of material like this in my circles.
Here is another song we play often. I have had the chance to hang out with Sion a few times really cool guy also!


I mostly listen to material a little off the beaten path. More straight forward and not as highly produced and commercial as the current mainstream worship material. Material like these songs from Iron Bell.


Or this one from We The Kingdom

Rene there is a world of really cool worship stuff out there outside the mainstream pop stuff you hear on the radio. Some really involved intricate musically stuff like this as an example


Here is an old friend i have played with on and off for many years as an example.


We have done several songs from these guys also

And


Lot of more musically challenging deeper lyrical stuff out there you never hear on the radio.

Sometimes that cookie cutter church music,
pop and too pop to be any good has had
more than a few musicians doubting their
own sensibilities. Where do they fit in if
their musical tastes fall far from a Sunday morn?

I once had a friend who refused to declare his
Christianity, even though his entire family were
church going people. Fantastic guitar player.
His complaint was that there
were no visible jazz fusion guitar players that
rivaled the likes of John McLaughlin, Larry Carlton,
or Neil Schon. Sad.

He died 20 years ago and my heart aches not knowing
if he ever changed his stance on all that. I hope
the merciful nature of God includes stubbornness too.

My hope is that more intricate musicianship becomes
the gold standard for those of us who can appreciate it.

Agree with you 100% here. There are many groups out there that are playing at high levels but they don't get the airplay and are not considered cool by the worship clicks. However they are real and many are writing some really cool stuff lyrically.
As far as the Jazz thing here is a really good bass player friend of mine from South Africa who is a believer playing with some like minded guys. When Alvin was touring with a band from SA in the states they were based out of our Church and he stayed with us when they had down time.

There are a LOT of teams out there playing some real music in Church. They just don't get a lot of media exposure or radio airplay. Maybe we need to start a thread on sharing of out of the mainstream worship artists.
