Huge respect for the man even though I of course did not know him at all. He just epitomized 70's cool and to write a song like Lyin Eyes (and so many more)? The man is well deserved legend to anyone who has ever tried to write a song.

I love this vid. A lot of people like to bag on The Eagles, and I think it's because they've forgotten what an incredible collection of talent the original four were. I like loads of their stuff, but those first three records are pure genius.

I also really dig that Glenn looks very much like a young Sam Elliot here. Kind of awesome.

Nice video: a Tele and a Tak and some great harmony. RIP Mr. Frey.

The original's my favorite lineup; I used to say that the Eagles were my type of country music.

Myself, I never met the man or talked to him. I'm sure many who knew him would have a reason to belittle him or be insulted by his reported arrogance and cold heartedness.

I'm sure I'm not the only old timer here who owes him and a whole mess of other artists (thank you CSNY, Buffalo Springfield, Country Gazette, Poco, New Riders, Crazy Horse, Linda and the Stone Ponies, Burrito Brothers, Byrds, and many more) a debt of gratitude for giving us alternatives to the Disco and Metal that was being pushed on us at the time.

Thanks for the music, Glenn! RIP....

Amen to that. With all the scuttlebutt about the film, the thing I remember most about it was Glenn Frey playing that ole LP Junior through an orange Roland Cube 40 at rehearsal. For some reason I felt like that was a whole lot cooler than all the drama.

References have been made to "Take It Easy". A lot of people around my age seem to have died recently. Frey is just the most recent a.t.o.w. Each individual's life is temporary and tenuous. Whatever "It" is, while I still can I'll take it any damn way I can get it.

Being born in 1980, I missed out The Eagles the first time around, but I really got into them in the summer of 1995, and my first love and I used to spend lots of nights listening to Hell Freezes Over, TGH Vol. 2, and the Hotel California album. Glenn was a big part of my teenage RnR soundtrack. Glad I got to see The Eagles on the Hell Freezes Over tour, and a couple of more times in the last few years. Going to miss him for sure. Godspeed....there sure is a heartache tonight.

I'm the same age as you, and had the same experience. I learned to play a ton of guitar off of the Hell Freezes Over VHS.

Glenn Frey wrote and sang some of my all time favorite songs. Whatever he might have been like personally, I'm grateful for his music and the gift that he shared with the world.

I always picture him with that LP JR., but I guess he had Tele's too...

A huge influence on my style over the years (among others) and will be sorely missed. 67 is a young age in our time. Rest in peace Glenn...I'm proud to have lived in the same world as you...

I'm thinking that all the money in the world wouldn't make ulcerative colitis any more bearable. :(

Okay Getbent, time to come out of hiatus and write the perfect eulogy with all the style and prose you can muster. Nobody could do it better than you.

My Glenn Frey story

Like so many have mentioned here already, it is a sad day for rock n roll fans, as Glenn Frey of the Eagles has passed away. The Eagles had a profound affect on me as a guitar player. I learned and still play several Eagles songs to this day. I believe that whenever I pick up an acoustic guitar for the first time I usually play the opening to "Lyin' Eyes". I was lucky enough to see the Eagles in concert, but only once. I just wanted to share a little story here. In 1988 my best friend Frank and I had tickets to go see the LA Kings play the Minnesota North Stars at the Forum. This was the first year that Wayne Gretzky was playing for the Kings and we had first row seats right on the glass. Before the game started, we were sitting there and a foot came up on the back of my chair and I kinda looked at Frank and he looked at me, we both turned around and it was Glenn Frey and a beautiful woman. He immediately apologized to me saying "sorry about that", we were both like wholly crap, it's Glenn Frey. I said "no problem" and we both said that we were big fans. (Frank and I had both started playing guitar at the same time in 7th grade). Glenn said "hockey fans too?" We said "yeah, really all sports". We talked for a while and we was a black hawks fan, but he too wanted to see Gretzky. We actually had four free drink coupons for the bar and offered for he and the lady to come have a drink with us at the period, he said "keep your free drinks, but he would see us at the bar". Being pre-cell phone days, I would had loved to have a picture of this, but sadly, I do not. RIP Glenn Frey, and RIP Frank Morris, my old friend, you died way too young and Glenn's passing today made me remember you as well. Looks like you'll get to meet Mr. Frey again before I do.

Already Gone at 67.
Too fast to live, too young to die.

Sad to see him leave the Stage.

He Took It To the Limit with his Life In The Fast Lane, but In The Long Run he wound up with a Peaceful, Easy Feelin, up over Seven Bridges Road :D

Now he's up in Party Town

I only saw Glenn Frey & the Eagles, once...I'd just graduated high school, it was summer '78 & the Long Run Tour was in town for two sold out shows, at the Coliseum. I had a decent floor seat, recalling a guy I was working with, who had gone the previous night, say their harmonies blew away the Beach Boys, who'd just played town. Their musicianship sure impressed me! Thanks for the great music, Glenn...take it easy!

Glad I got to see him (twice), in 73 and 75.
My sister Kate is going to be devastated, he was her favorite.
Great singer, writer, player.
RIP, brother!

My first girlfriend's mom dated Glen Frey in High school at Dondero. We grew up in adjacent city's. Her mom had her pretty young, but Glen was not her Dad. But I remember her telling me the story in 1979. Had to be close, though. New Kid in Town was out when I was an early teen, and is a favorite of mine to this day.
