I did keto last summer and lost a lot of weight. Ended up getting several stents, dying and getting zapped eight times a few days ago. Fortunately, I started a whole food plant based diet a couple of months ago, and things should start getting better.

Bottom line, if you have heart disease, Keto is not your friend....

I've heard that flying monkey taste great, you have to boil the piss out of them, and then smoke them.

Wow! Welcome back! In more ways then one!

I eat in moderation, and I eat a lot of plants, but I don't stick to any formal diet. And I'm sure glad that I don't have to do that liquid diet they gave me after I almost checked out. Solid food is a wonderful thing.

Isn’t the keto diet putting your body in survival mode?

Geez, man. I've never heard of Keto before, but thanks for the warning. I'll definitely remember this thread if someone suggests it. Glad you're alive to tell us about it.

Oh wow. My wife is doing that now. Maybe I should talk to her. She sure does hate advice though . . .

There was a fairly lengthy thread about it here not too long ago with quite a few members posting positive results. I guess with all diets individual results may vary and it doesn’t hurt to consult a doctor or nutritionist first.

    Cheers,
    Geoff

Steer her towards a whole food plant based diet. No good can become of eating tons of sat-fats.

She isn’t planning on doing it forever, she’s doing a Biggest Loser thing at work. But she likes aspects of it and it has actually been good for her migraines. She has already started to cut back on meat so I think the plan is to dial back the fat and keep going easy on the carbs.

That doesn't sound like the result of one year of dieting, it sounds like something that built up prior and that was going to happen no matter what.

There are gobs of diabetics on keto who do better on it, but it does seem to be case by case.

I think it won't be that long before we can get a genetic test and find out how we'll respond to each type of diet. I do better on keto (have migraines like mentioned above), but don't have the discipline to stay on it. You can do it on unsaturated fats for the most part, too, but that's pretty boring.

I'm glad you're back and healthy! That must have been just horrible. I would like to know how you discovered that eating this diet led to your heart attack? In other words, especially if you already had heart disease, how do you know that going keto is what did your heart in?

I ask because I went low-carb Paleo for several years and they were easily the healthiest years I have ever had. That might not be the same thing as when say "keto" however. When I got lazy and started eating "normally" I immediately started going downhill. Now I'm re-starting myself on it and I already feel better.

Please don't spread falsehoods about keto, especially if you're not familiar with it.

    OP, glad you're doing better.

I don't know what a Keto is, but from the sound of it, I don't want to know either. Hope you get some meat back on your bones, and get well soon!
