Like so many other members, I guess it’s time to post the pending passing of my little buddy. Gizmo has reached the point where I’m not doing him any favors by keeping him alive any longer. He contracted Diabetes about 3 years ago and shortly after went blind. About 6 months ago it became obvious he was deaf as well.

He received Insulin twice a day which helped but at 14 years old the writing is on the wall. He now refuses to eat and his cognitive skills are significantly diminished. I could go on but you get the picture.

The gf and I are taking him out for his last day of kayaking Wednesday morning and then having a vet come to the house in the evening. A great friend and a great loss. I’d burn a truckload of ‘59 Les Pauls if it would help him. 8D7C7A33-73BB-4620-BC5B-DAB80BB1432A.jpeg F9C49EF5-30D6-4211-B3F1-C742EBC42E43.jpeg DD195CBB-3D31-4BB2-9463-3C889745FF62.jpeg AF9D6263-C682-46F2-8265-F7E1A2DD3690.jpeg

@Tomm Williams - re-posting the Uber note that make me cry each time I re-read.
    Gizmo's had a good run.
    He's tired.
And he's letting you know that.
But surely you know; he's had a great ride.

    Peace - Deeve

I printed a copy of this when I first saw it here a couple years ago? I knew there would be a day it would have significant relevance.

@Tomm Williams - this is the other one that goes along w/ the first one.
Gizmo will be filling them in until you cross, later on.

    Peace - Deeve

I’ve been there and it makes me very sad to recall. I felt better afterward knowing how much suffering the dog was going through. A good run, indeed.

The hardest, saddest decision I’ve ever had to make, even knowing it was the right one. Peaceful passage for the little guy...

Oh, it's so hard! My condolences Tomm and thanks for the photos of Gizmo. I'm glad he had a last kayak ride! It's such a hard thing to do, to lose a long-time companion. I'm sure he's spent his life with people who love him and try to do everything good for him, just like he tried to do for you. Peace, my friend.
