    In North Myrtle Beach, where I grew up around the "Carolina Beach Music" scene, Jerry Butler is a total legend. I won't take over your thread with all my many faves, but here are a few lesser known ones.

    Spot on. A case can be made that Jerry Butler, along with Sam Cooke, pioneered what later became to be called "Soul Music". Jerry Butler, as lead with the Impressions, recorded what many call the first soul music song, "For Your Precious Love", showcasing intense, gospel inspired vocals with the backup singers anticipating and repeating his words-- a masterpiece...
