I've just finished building this replica of David Gilmour's 0001 Strat. It has turned out better than I even hoped, in every respect.

    Specs:

Body bought from Reverb - the seller sold it as a replica body with all the relicing. The paint finish job was terrible though and at some point I will finish it off myself with a proper sanding and buffing. For now though, I'll live with it.
Neck - Fender 50s Classic Player
    Pickups - Fender Fat 50s
    Hardware - mostly from Crazyparts
Pickguard - Axetec anodized gold which I reliced myself to simulate the wear patterns in the original

It plays wonderfully and sounds beautiful. I can't put it down! I'm very impressed with the neck. It didn't need any fretwork; I've got the action nice and low and there's no buzzing anywhere. The nut comes with pilot slots that you have to file down. The synthetic bone material is extremely hard which helped me get the slots filed nicely.

I love this guitar and look forward to playing some Floyd on it with my band...next year at this rate!

Homer Haynes from homer and jethro also owned the original. You’ve done a fantastic job. Love it.

I'm not a Strat person, but I feel strangely liking that. You've certainly done a fine job. Hope it sounds as good as it looks.

    Wow, nice.
I've heard of that guitar for years but it never seemed to get much attention. Glad you are tribute-ing it.

Yes, those necks are great. I have a CP50s and two Jimmie Vaughans (which have the same neck).

Oh, and I have your guitar before it got old.

You're thinking of a different guitar - the Homer Haynes Strat, which Gilmour also owned, is blue.

Hate to break it to you after you did all that work, but you could have just bought it at the auction. :)

Looks awesome! Have not seen many replicas of this one and it looks spot on.

I know right - all that effort I could have saved by coughing up $1.8 million!

There was also a replica sold at the auction - it went for $93k!

for authenticity you may want to try a 4" tremolo arm that Dave G was fond of ,I have 2 lefty ones

Nice work! I'd love to have a go at building a custom replica from parts but I have no idea how to get started. It's easier to sit on the couch and look at other people doing it...*

Interesting! It seems he did own a #0001 Strat too, though his was all-gold. It's not the same guitar as Gilmour's, although to add to the confusion Gilmour owned a blue one that used to belong to Haynes.

The Gilmour 0001 has an element of mystery surrounding it as well:
