I continue having G.A.S., thinking of trades, dreaming of the holy grail etc... but all of a sudden I've realized that most gigs for this summer season are not likely to happen. The best gigs of the year are coming up June, July etc... and likely cancelled. At my age, my last hurrah may have been last year actually... I kinda figured this may be my last year gigging, but it seems like this year ain't happening... All this gear.. I need to stop the Gear Acquisition Syndrome NOW! It ain't gonna get used...

One thing I've learned in life, you get no warning when some things suddenly disappear forever.... and you may never experience them again..

What a shame! What part of the NW are you in? I will venture to your backyard for a gig...

Ain't that the truth. Have you ever had a really beautiful woman break up with you and you thought, "man, if I knew you were going to dump me I would have made sure that the last time we had sex would have been epic...."

Buy gear-- you will be doing your part to prop up our cratering economy....

The heat of the summer may be the best thing that could happen to deal with the current crises....outside of proper hygiene and social distancing for the moment. As I understand it, the virus can not survive the heat.
As for acquisition, hard times beget good deals if you are a buyer....bad deals if you are a seller.

I was just notified of a PRS David Grissom wood library for $1000. that's a what, $4-5000 guitar?

but my funds are all allocated and I can't take advantage of it.

Never been a better time to practice...just think of the quality of live music when things return to normal!

Don’t miss the water ‘til the well runs dry...not sure when things will return or what the new “normal” might be - but sure appreciate the opportunities I’ve had.

And when things go back to a more regular schedule, the old saying that every gig is important will have a fresh coat of paint.

Not sure that's the case about the heat, but it's possibly true.

Also, you can get something from a package from someone that handled it recently.

Lately gear wise I've decided to ask myself "will this purchase or trade have a positive impact on (1) my playing ability, and (2) more gigs?" Usually the answer is no, so GAS aside, why make the deal and spend that money?

I think you should go ahead and buy all the gear you want but if your worried it won't get used just change your shipping address to...

GAS has nothing to do with benefiting skill level or acquiring gigs and everything to do with lusts of the heart. Here I am pretty much retired from gigging and I just ordered another Tele. My joys are looking at it hanging on my wall and occasionally noodling on it.
I'll probably do the odd fill in gig when asked but it will be rare.

If I'd known my GF was gonna dump me right before the holidays, I woulda cheated on her the couple times I had the chance.

I take lessons at Guitar Center Studios. I went in for my lesson on Monday. There were 5 clerks & no customers. I know all of the clerks & they are all gigging musicians. Everyone of them had all their gigs canceled & Guitar Center may have to close it's doors in the next week. Pain is going to be great for anyone who makes a living gigging.

Maybe so, and maybe I've just learned a bit of self control, but that's the thought process...will this purchase make be a better play, sound better, etc., and will this get me more gigs? It used to be that, if I wanted it and could afford it, I just got it based on GAS...
