Looks a lot like CBGB in the late 70s but with prettier people and less trash.;)

This club used to be a really dark, dungeon of a bar with bikers, shady business and hardened alcoholics. Until a couple of young women saw the potential for a club concert venue and bought and refurbished the place. Now it’s quite the Surf rockabilly Burlesque bar with bands playing all the time. And yeah, attractive young people. We’ve played there 5 times and it’s gets really tight and warm with just 60+ people. I don’t like having drunk loud people in my face like that and bumping into band mates. Once this dead drunk 2meter tall, 150kg guy fell over the monitor onto the stage like a lamppost and barely missed me.. hahaha That sort of stuff is a young mans game. Alternatively, a trip to the pharmacy beforehand..

That's Northside Tavern, I've had a Sunday night gig there over 20 years. Here's the scoop on those artists paintings on the wall.

Both of these were taken by amateur photographers but they turned out ok.

Here's one that a reviewer snapped with a long lens. Love the perspective. And the creepy mask guy. All time favorite. 29E24DA5-CAA1-41EF-B954-BD864A77F394.jpeg

Seeing all these live show photos of enthusiast bands and weekend warriors, I wonder how it is in the US with getting paid for entertaining on this level..?

Over here in Europe it’s not really appreciated as working if you’re 'nobodies'. Some bars and small clubs expect you to cover the pay check for the FOH sound technician guy and even for renting gear..
On top of that they only offer you the money from the door, which is little cause they naturally want to fill the place up and sell lots of beer. The whole thing is so ridiculous. Owners assume that it’s such a treat to perform as an unknown act that artist are happy doing it. And it seems to work...! Artist can even loose money..

Our band has never done such a ****ty deal. But the very fact that such thinking is normal in this day and age in the western world...

Maybe it’s an side effect of people thinking that music is for free now with Spotify..

Of course if you get a little fame or infamous rep. The money is decent. And that’s natural.

But work is work. And when the bartender gets paid more than the band members somethings backwards...

    Smooth. Few questions.

Are you trying to endear yourself to the musicians who posted here?

    What's your day job?

Where's your "enthusiast bands and weekend warriors" photo?

    Them's fightin' words!

Kidding...sort of. I guess I don't know what "hipster" means. To me, it sounds like it's synonymous with "poser." Either way, I most likely will never see that "Texas Boy in Brooklyn" scenario play itself out. I have never been to NYC, and I have no desire to ever go there. Way too crowded, way too much hassle.

I’m sorry if the term 'weekend warriors' is considered derogatory. English is not my first language. I assume that most of these bands are enthusiast. Is that a wrong assumption.. Playing live in a band for having a good time is still entertaining people and should be considered work.

    "endear"... hardly
I was just wondering about the state of affairs in the US on these things and I really don’t get why the hostile tone..
What did you find provocative exactly? Are you a bar owner..

For professional musicians, both of those terms are derogatory. Might be the reason for my perceived tone. I understand you're from Norway, I thought you guys speak better english than us.

Why don't you start your own thread and ask about gigging conditions in the US? I expect you'd get a better response than buried in a threat about gig photos.

"Are you a bar owner.." a little detective work in this thread should tell you I'm a player, not a payer.

I think the terms weekend warriors and enthusiast bands is just another way of saying amateur music player, as opposed to someone who earns their primary living by playing music. I did not find it provocative, derogatory, or offensive at all.

Even if all the bands depicted are highly compensated pro’s I dont see any offense in an honest mistake. Chill out.

He did post his photo of his band in the punk bar, post #39.

Seemed like an innocent question about how amateur bands are compensated for playing in bars, with some insight about how it’s done in Europe. Don’t see any attempt to endear himself, or a sarcastic opposite, came across to me as just what it was.

I can’t decide about who’s more valuable to a bar owner-a good band that people will come see ( and order drinks from the bartender) or the bartender him/ herself.:D
