How about a couple huge, perfect awesome mangoes?

They grow mangoes in hothouses here that will just ruin you for regular mangoes. Only a hundred bucks for two!

If not that, then some other kind of exotic consumable, preferably something he hasn’t thought of.

How about a brothers-only outing for something that is classic Chicago. An sunny afternoon game at Wrigley, a visit to Sue at the Field Museum, or see some of the worlds great paintings at the Art Institute. Or maybe a classic bite to eat - like a Chicago dog or deep dish pizza.

Or a couple of low class ones. Or better yet, one of each.

Does he have a passion from his youth?

My dad worked on airplanes. He loves the little die cast metal models, usually in IH red or John Deere green livery. He builds RC planes as well, but those would be a much bigger gift, and kind of like buying a guitar for a guitar player without knowing if he is a Fender or Gibson guy.

I don't really have any suggestions for anything for your brother, but whatever you do, don't give in and buy him anything golf related. If he has plenty of money, he has exactly what he wants in the way of golf stuff, and anything that's cute to you, probably won't be to him. I've got a collection of stuff my golfing buddy has given me that I've never used, or even looked at more than once.

I would assume that he had jazz records. Does he have a turntable? A friend of mine seems to be in a second childhood because he bought a small turntable sound system, and went on a bit of a spree buying old albums. He seems to be having a blast.

Since its a bit of a family reunion. Dive into some old family pictures or slides and do a show and tell. Perhaps some of your younger family members or his wife and kids and etc. Have never heard the stories of his youth...perhaps there will be pictures to prove it.

Also have somebody video the show and tell activity. It will become a treasure for him and his family.
