They may be doing it so they don't have to sue themselves.

If they pick one of those old headstocks in the pics it could be a game changer.

Nice change. The recent Epi headstock is not a good design; it comes across as what it is, a fast and thoughtless, obvious Gibson-not-Gibson mess.

What is this guitar? I don't recognize it!

Meanwhile: Gibson offers Slash's '66 doubleneck for $13k.

I may actually think about buying an Epiphone again. My first “good” guitar was a Korean built Epiphone Les Paul. I still have it. It still sounds and plays great. It has pretty heavy fret wear. I like some of the Epiphone semi hollow bodies. If they change the headstock, I may think about snatching something up. I always hated the clipped headstock and the elongated headstock is rough too. I know looks shouldn’t matter, but it does to me.

try and try again, I strive to overcome my deep seated resentment towards Gibson inc.,and yet I am rendered unable to remember all the personal reasons that I resent Gibson ,therefore the resentment festers green puss gooey yellow brown necrotic toxic and like a willful stepchild with no impulse control, I strive to find patience with my constricted emotions. Surely there must be a guitar company that cherishes their employees and customers as much as their quarterly profits.

I have a bunch of Epiphones.
I just ignore the Headstock, but yeah...
I never really cared for it.

Looking forward to trying a restyled Epi L.P. in the future.

As we all know, the shape of a guitar's headstock has a major effect on it's tone ... Almost as much as the color of the body, and the plating of the hardware ...

I really like the idea of reviving the unique designs that distinguish the brand from mere Gibson copyists. The owners might like to consider offering a fresh line of guitars, with novel pickups, unusual electrics and straight-pull tuning (whatever the headstock looks like.) The way Gibson has used this marque in the past, has always seemed unimaginative, to me.

My guess is that they will change to the open book headstock to try to claw back some of the sales they are missing out on due to the fakes. I'd be ok with that, I own a few epiphones but have never really liked the chopped corner headstocks.

I noticed they are also stamping serial numbers into the headstocks now, or at least on my newer 1966 G400.

Better idea than the hologram like they used on Gibsons a few years back.
I cant remember but I think my epiphones have printed serial numbers on the back of the headstocks under the poly clear. A standard and a 56 goldtop from 2008 and 2010.

I don’t get why the MIJ Epi got the Gibby stock but we get the red headed stepchild in the states.

I do like the Wildkat headstock just fine but maybe because it's not on a LP or335 where I’m used to a vintage shape.
