Just found this thread! Any excuse to post my 2020 special. The P90s + wraptail bridge = pure rock and roll!

Back in 2018 I posted a collage shot of my 4 Specials (2 Gibbies, an Epi, and a Hamer USA).

Here's a new(er) photo of the two Gibsons.

Rick Beato, the Youtuber music guy, is getting a signature Gibson Les Paul Special DC. Should have two P-90s and be TV Yellow from the Guitar World article I read. It's supposed to come out later in 2021.

I better add my Tokai, I suppose.

I felt similarly about the P90 neck pickup in my 2012 Gibson LP Special. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't pleasing to me, either. I like a neck pickup that is both full-bodied AND sparkly.

SO, I popped a TV Jones T-Armond pickup (in P90 format!) into the neck position, swapped the volume pot for a 940k pot, and WOW... the improvement was fantastic! Sparkly, full-bodied, and detailed single coil tones from the neck position. Enough improvement to defer my thoughts of selling this beautiful, well-made guitar!

This is a killer video for anyone looking to compare the 2019 onward Epiphone Vs. Gibson Les Paul Special. Highly recommended!

Not one of the more popular models due to, well everything, but a fine guitar in its own right.
I like the "chocolate burst" finish but it was too dark looking with all that black trim.
Amber knobs, switch tip and chrome bezels added by me. The 490 series pickups are muscular and clear, takes overdrive like a pro, stock tuners stay in tune for weeks, roasted maple fingerboard, bound neck. Perfect intonation with 11's, but it was fine with tens.
Bought new at Sam Ash, set up that day, hasn't been touched since.
