I couldn’t read the whole story

Did it actually get stolen or go missing?

Boy am I glad political comments are banned from this forum. And there are collectors who will pay more than that for this famous missing document.

For a half a million bucks I better be able to plug it in and hear the tone instantly. Oh that's right...its a Les Paul...you have to overdrive the snot out of them to the point where any tone that existed is frizzled beyond recognition.

    Then you talk about "bloom."

I just entered a trance-state and pulled all that information from the akashic field. If I ever decide to do a Les Paul build, I’m all set.

You’d think all these collectors would band together and figure out how many they have (I bet they have more than we’re made)
But they won’t because they are all scared they are the one with the fake/s

    $500,000 !?!? :lol::lol::lol:

The last time a non-celebrity owned ‘burst (I hate even typing that word) sold for $500k it was before 2008 and also before Lil Joe started doing the rat pack suit/shades routine ...

those days are gone like a cool breeze

Between 1958 and 1960 Gibson made 1600 sunburst Les Paul, of which only 2300 survive.

    I bet Orrin had it.

he was a luthier and guitar repair man that had many many contacts connections and friends who worked in Gibson Kalamazoo.

I got to know him because I bought a 1957 Gretsch country club in Cadillac green from him for $400. (Back in 1987) His house was as jampacked full of cool vintage guitars as I’ve ever seen. Everywhere you looked there was something crazy that you wanted to pick up and play or at least look at but there was so much you were just overwhelmed.

He had a Christine Chrysler in his garage that was full of tiny cases filled with either mandolins violins ukuleles for various other small instruments , and these were all Martin Gibson, And other high end deals - no crap.

Just stuff he hadn’t got to yet.

But the reason that I suspect that he might be the one who had it was the boxes and boxes of Gibson stuff he showed me . Right from the factory.

between 30-40 PAF’s . Almost all unused/never in a guitar. Bodies for most LP variants - 50’s and 60’s bodies and 10 various Les Paul screened necks.

He also had an employee-made 1960 LP std with a LP custom neck and red burst flamey flame body.

The way he told it was as soon as word came around that Gibson was going to cease operations in Kalamazoo stuff just started walking out of there.

And the guys that he knew that worked there, some of whom went on to form heritage Guitars, would come across stuff that was squirreled away and ask him if he wanted to buy it. And he bought everything.

He also had boxes and boxes of Gibson catalogs, paperwork stationary, letterhead’s and books.

I hope his widow is still alive, or his kids, And they have it and they cash in

I noted that, too, and the other collector mentioned has a dozen or so. It's sad. If they are spectacular instruments with incomparable tone, they ought to be played not stored or held from investment value. I know I know I know. I'm just saying it's a shame. And I'm against it.

There are absolutely more in circulation than were ever built. And everybody who owns them swears theirs are the real ones. They do NOT want this book found. It would mean facing a very ugly reality for many of them.

If this book still exists, and that’s a BIG if, there’s a high likelihood that this search will cause it to be destroyed. If you’re a dealer or collector sitting on a half dozen bursts that aren’t accounted for in this ledger, $59K is chicken feed.

Hell, if you have one that isn’t in the ledger $59k is nothing compared to losing all the value of your $250k Les Fake.
