Gibson is just begging to get beat up over this idea.

Is Gibson forcing their retailers to take a minimum order of these...OR ELSE??

What are the clues to indicate possible Chinese counterfeiting?

The crack was originally covered by the ashtray. If we were playing the guitars the way Leo intended instead of thoughtlessly defacing them for the mere sake of playability there'd be no problem. Since Fender rarely includes the cover anymore they should ever-so-slightly redesign something to fix that, but then we all know how many people would b*tch that "it doesn't sound/look/ perform/ the same anymore...I'll never buy another Fender, blah-blah..."

That's not a flaw in any way.
My Gatton Telecaster has the same thing.

If it's not a flaw it must be a feature!

The Chinese counterfeits don't break off in the same place the Gibsons do if they break off at all.

I don't know, Gibson owner over 50 years, never broke a headstock. Squier owner for 8 years, never broke or cracked the plastic jack plate (as is normally caused by owner walking away without disconnecting the cord, producing 50 lb of resistance as the cord goes taught..). But, like my dad used to say, there's a reason to idiot-proof stuff.

I have only owned one Squier. The first thing I did was replace the plastic jack plate, because I am that idiot...

I may be too, some day. But I owned it quite a while before I read that I'm supposed to replace it. I'm pretty lazy, so I short-cut everything, and see if I get away with it. I'm that idiot, lol.

About 20 years ago I knew someone that had several guitar ornaments. Fenders, Gibsons, Martins, Gretch, are the ones that come to mind. I believe there were 20 or so ornaments. Pretty cool looking on a tree

Is it real or a chibson? Only an expert can tell or you can send back to Gibson for further confirmation.
