Gibson is just begging to get beat up over this idea.

I would hesitate to memorialize 2020 in any way.
And it looks really poorly made.
Are we sure this is not a joke?

They probably bought customer guitar buying data, focused grouped ideas to generate sympathetic feelings toward Gibson, and came up with this idea. Make a dumb holiday ornament, generate a gazillion social media sneers, and guitar consumers will feel sorry for Gibson. This has a 67% chance, according to their AI calculations, of increasing sales. You schlubs fell for it. Hey, how does everybody feel about New Coke?

I'm just picturing a bunch of Gibson builders logging on to Facebook and saying to themselves, "Oh good lord, what the..."

There comes a time in the life of many bands, companies, or other money-making entities where they stop producing anything new, or perhaps even much of anything at all, and begin to make money in an endless cycle of recycling past glories, ironic self-reference and even self-parody.

I'm not saying that's what's happening to Gibson. But I'm also not saying that it's not.

Is it possible to buy anything from Gibson that's less than $50?

But it's only available in Japan, where you see those front yard displays of Santa on the cross.

Gibson actually had the perfect opportunity for really awesome troll gift, if they had made the bottom part of the headstock splintered looking.

Funny! But as has been pointed out many times, broken head stocks reveal operator error. <ouch>

This is actually true... I have never dropped one of my guitars, and I've never knocked one off a stand. I've never owned a guitar that I didn't use strap locks with.

That said, Gibson should start bringing in a "modern series" or something, with a more robust headstock/neck joint, and then slowly transition to that design completely. They could still offer the "traditional" design for people who want it, and charge more for it because they know people will pay it!

I bought a Chinese made knock-off. I hung it near the top of the tree and you can hardly tell it's not the real thing.

Yeah...call it a "volute" because it's classy-sounding and the people will LOVE it! Soon every Gibson will have it and sales will go through the roof. It'll break the internet!

    0h wait...

If you look at the trussrod cover upside down (and sideways?) it actually reads 'nono'.....
