Found one of these today just amp sniffing. Never heard of or seen one before!!! 6-8"'s about 25 watts with a "high gain" switch. I'm intrigued
Anyone ever play one?

Nothing better than six 8” speakers! It’s like six champs working together in a naugahide cabinet! It’s a stagecoach of sound.
Congrats!

Shhhhhh. I still need to buy an old gibson amp. All this talk is going to drive the prices up.

That is a nice find. I've only seen a couple, but never with all their original speakers. Note that replacement speakers usually do not fit without modification. I'll look forward to your review!

I should note that the picture I posted is NOT the one I bought but it's condition is virtually identical. I couldn't get the GC pics to copy for me. Mine does have the original speakers, transformers, the works !

Unusual to see 6 x 8" speakers. Total impedance 5.34 Ohms.

And pentode input tubes... should sound a treat! Congratulations on your find.

Rare beast that, I think a lot of these old Gibson amps with lot's of smaller speakers were aimed at accordian players, I know the ones marketed with the Maestro branding were. Some Gibson amps are great, Gretsch had some amps made by Valco with 11"x8" eliptical speakers and they can be very good too.
I'm all for unusual speaker configurations, it's great to move away from a single 12"

Yes I do have an update

The GC I was buying it from sat on it for over a week without even attempting to box it up. I cancelled the purchase and found a really nice condition '56? GA50 that was fully serviced for $400 less than the 90.

congratulations on the ga50, I'm sure we'd all love to hear it if possible : )
I played a similar looking gibson ga amp at the chicago music exchange which was an early stereo unit. it sounded amazing.

I also love amps with unusual speaker configurations. My main practice amp right now is actually a wwii era bell & howell projector with an eliptical speaker and military issue metal coated tubes. originally the amp would have been used with a microphone to narrate film reels. there's a ton of overdrive available when using it with a guitar, and plenty loud.

I have a valco made gretsch with 2x 10" jensens and a 5" rola tweeter. Incredible sparkly tones, but unfortunately it is out of commision at the moment.
