In late January I sent a 2007 G0 back to Gibson because it had a twisted neck. They set it up with a date with their wood chipper. Today I received the replacement, a 2021 R9 in Dirty Lemon.

G0's are great guitars but significantly less than a 2020 R9. That's a great deal and pretty fantastic customer service if they did a straight trade for the guitar.

Your R9 is a beaut. Congratulations.

That’s a great deal and a great outcome. Glad Gibson stands behind their product. You should post a pic of the twisted neck ...

The only thing I paid for was the cost to ship the G0 to them.

They don’t make the G0 anymore so when we discussed replacement options I shot for the stars and made a case for an R9. Surprisingly they agreed.

Wow that is a hell of a twist! I hope they didn’t fight you on that. I don’t see how they could. Looks like you came up on the deal though. Congratulations and enjoy.

No fight whatsoever. It was extremely easy.

I had a set of Thrōbak pickups in it and I couldn’t find the originals. Not wanting to chance losing a set of $575 Thrōbaks I bought a set of Seth Lovers and swapped them out. When I sent the guitar in I included a note requesting them to send the pickups back if possible. About 2 weeks later the pickups showed up in the mail.

    VERY nice!

Back in 2012 I bought a CS 3399. It was a fantastic guitar. Gibson warranties their materials and workmanship for a period of one year from purchase.

At the 14 month point I took the guitar out of the case to play it and the string action was way up. On the back of the neck, behind the nut, the wood was split longitudinally for about an inch and a half.

I felt sick. As comedian Brian Regan says, "everything on my inside wanted to be on my outside." Even though this was an expensive guitar, t wasn't about the money; it was that the guitar was once so superb in every way, and now it was coming apart. I had never seen a neck split like this.

I contacted Gibson and they requested the serial number and pics, which I sent. They replied they'd like to see the guitar, so I shipped it to them. A week later I received a call from them, telling me the guitar was not repairable, and they would be sending me a replacement.

A week later the replacement arrived, and it was nicer than the one I cherry-picked.

Good onya, Gibson. You took good care of me and I appreciate it.

    Seeing this picture hurts!!!
But gosh, that R9 looks absolutely wonderful!!!

If it plays and sounds as good as it looks, it's a very happy ending to an unfortunate situation!!!

One of my axes has some neck bow, but thankfully all straight. It makes a very flat S, something which can be accommodated with a fret level. Lucky thing as the guitar is from 1983 and can't really be replaced.

    Very nice :).

    My old #9 is a 2006 R9 and I've always loved it.

    Excellent guitar!

Classic sound and classic feel :).

You definitely came out ahead in this deal. How often does that happen anymore? Enjoy the new guitar, it is stunning.

Funny thing about those twisted necks - some times they play just fine.

I surely wouldn't accept one on a new guitar though ;).

I had a 1999 or 2000 Epiphone Dot that I got as part of a trade that developed a little twist in the neck.

Even with that twist it still played great. I passed it on in another trade and the new owner said as long as the guitar kept playing the way it did, he didn't care about the twist either. I never heard back from him, so I guess the Dot is still playing good - twisted neck and all.

I'm very glad to hear that Gibson stood by their warranty and got you fixed up with what I think is their best guitar :).

This is the way it's supposed to work.

Might as well start out at the top! :)

I'm not familiar with the G0 model, but I'd think that in labor and materials cost there probably isn't very much difference between a G0 and a R9.

Your R9 has a hell of a nice top on it.

It makes your old G0 look rather pedestrian ;).

Congratulations. It’s awesome when a company exhibits great customer service.
Both are beautiful guitars but I think you kicked it up a notch with the R9.
