I've gotten the Asian ones, and the English ones, and surprisingly get three years out of either. I recently got a pair of "Docs for life". They cost a bit more but will be fixed or replaced forever, for about thirty dollars. For someone who is hard on shoes, that is a great deal!

i was thinking of this...but not sure if i would do it

You need to buy the ones that are made in the UK.

you and everyone contemplating buying them should read this guys review

http://www.alphabetcityblog.com/2009/05/doc-martens-made-in-england-vs-made-in.html

As I got older and had a couple pairs of Tony Lamas that seemed tighter. I bought a pair of shoe/boot stretchers at (believe it or not) Bed, Bath and Beyond. Took a couple weeks of adjusting every few days and it worked! Still wearing my 35 year old boots that have been resoled more times than I can even remember...but, boy do they feel great!

the guy at the shoe repair place told me to come back in 10 days...he said he would be working on them the whole time...stretching and widening them

I had a pair of Docs stretched. It worked for what i needed, which was enough stretching to ease the break in period...

If you need to go up half size or more, stretching may not work that well

i read that getting a half size larger is doable...widening wouldnt be a problem but getting length would be...i will be charged 10 bucks...worth the chance to see what happens

well today was the day i got to pick up my boots...i was so excited!

i get home kick off my sneakers...put on the right boot then the left and...

the right is still tight on my instep but the length feels ok and the left instep feels ok but the length feels tight

i tie them and walk...while i could deal with the tight instep but boots feel like my toes are scrunched

i was hoping this would work...i guess my foot is a full size bigger than when i bought these boots close to 15 years ago...now i have to decide if i want to buy another pair...they are expensive

Hey Brad, would you find a site with a pic or style and your size? We've got some awesomely sanitary thrift stores and I'd sure keep an eye open for you. Whatever you think...

In my opinion, you need to compare your foot to the sole of the shoe. No widening or stretching will ever be comfortable if your foot is bigger than the sole.

Docs are great shoes-- arguably, if you had to have only one pair of shoes for everything, Docs would be a pretty good choice.

My recommendation would be to donate your old Docs to charity or sell at a vintage clothing store, and to treat yourself to a nice new pair of Docs that will fit you perfectly.

Like stuffing 10lbs of poop in a 5lb bag.

when was the last time you wore them...i didnt wear mine for like 10 years and then i tried them on and they were too small

Man, in 23 years I have worn out so many pairs I'm not sure I could count. Initially I had a pair of the black lace up boots, I've had the black buckle shoes, several clogs, two pair of brown casual hightop shoes, and several other. Like I said, I loved em and I always wore them out.

Yea Blundstones! A Tasmanian company though a couple of years ago they moved production from Hobart to Sri Lanka.

Here is how you can widen leather upper and soled shoes yourself.

Put plastic bags inside the shoes- they bags cannot have holes- small
garbage bags work well.

Fill with water, put in freezer for 2 days.

This will stretch them about a full size. Actually, it stretches them 9 percent,
as ice is 9 percent larger than the same amount of water.
