I've gotten the Asian ones, and the English ones, and surprisingly get three years out of either. I recently got a pair of "Docs for life". They cost a bit more but will be fixed or replaced forever, for about thirty dollars. For someone who is hard on shoes, that is a great deal!
i was thinking of this...but not sure if i would do it
You need to buy the ones that are made in the UK.
you and everyone contemplating buying them should read this guys review

As I got older and had a couple pairs of Tony Lamas that seemed tighter. I bought a pair of shoe/boot stretchers at (believe it or not) Bed, Bath and Beyond. Took a couple weeks of adjusting every few days and it worked! Still wearing my 35 year old boots that have been resoled more times than I can even remember...but, boy do they feel great!
the guy at the shoe repair place told me to come back in 10 days...he said he would be working on them the whole time...stretching and widening them
I had a pair of Docs stretched. It worked for what i needed, which was enough stretching to ease the break in period...
If you need to go up half size or more, stretching may not work that well
i read that getting a half size larger is doable...widening wouldnt be a problem but getting length would be...i will be charged 10 bucks...worth the chance to see what happens
