A few weeks ago, I got my first Les Paul as a surprise gift from my wife!

It’s a Gibson Les Paul Special from 2020 and it has proven to be the best guitar I’ve ever played!

Not only does it look nice, smell nice and play nice, it sounds amazing as well!

To show some of the versatility of this guitar, I recorded this version of Bold as Love, which is an archetypical Strat song.

Those of you with keen eyes can perhaps spot a Stratocaster lurking in the background?

Would love to hear what you think of this!

Very nice playing and nice tone!

No, it doesn't sound like a Fender, it sounds like a nice Les Paul with nice PAF style humbuckers.

Humbuckers won't ever be quite as clear and crisp as Fender single coils, but that doesn't mean they have to sound like mud. This is a very good example of the nice clean tones you can get from good humbuckers, I enjoyed it!

    Edit:
They're p90s, not humbuckers, my mistake. But I guess that shows how similar they can sound!

Love P90s! But, no, it still sounds like a Les Paul. I know a trick, though:

    1. Replace the mahogany neck with a bolt on maple neck with no neck angle and a straight, inline headstock.

    2. Replace the single cut mahogany body with maple cap for alder or swamp ash double cut.

    3. Replace the P90s with three mid-voiced single coils, angling the bridge pup.

    4. Add a trem.

    Simple.

Funny how they still sound like humbuckers. Dig your playing and make sure to share more with us because that was very cool. Put that down and pick up the Strat to play that song. Hope this doesn't help...lol

P-90S can do that. It's why they're still popular.

Play near the bridge for more twang. Also EQ your amp to be more bright and less midrange if possible

Danny Gatton played some convincing tele licks with a Les Paul

The perfect pickup, IMHO, is the P90. I’m really partial to Wolfe Macleod’s P90s. His Mean & Meaner in a friends SG sound spectacular

I had the exact opposite problem, my '52 HotRod Telecaster was trying too hard to sound like my Les Paul so I changed out the mini-humbucker and bridge pickup to some very twangy Tele pickups. I do not need two Les Pauls.

Not like a Fender, but it's really a great sound. Something about the all mahogany body with P90s make for a wonderful sounding guitar, thick but with clarity. Nice playing too. Play it in good health!

There are no humbuckers in this video. And it really doesn’t sound like there are.

I know there are no humbuckers, I would think you knew I could spot a P90 from a city block away. My opinion is they sound a little thick. Unlike any P90s I have. JMHO that they sound like hummies. Sorry I should have been more descriptive. My bad. :)
