I read someones Twitter bio that said that they are into "Dystopian Indie Dance music." Ha? I must be old.

    That's so last year.:D

Seriously though, I always thought I'd be the cool dad who was all ultra hip and down with it all. Yeah that didn't really work out. I'm just about as out of touch as my kids think I am, probably more.

I don’t try to keep up.
For me, music is the stuff I play, not listen to.
I love making/playing music, original or otherwise.

That must have been a small party -- They don't even make Toyota Matrixes (Matrices?) anymore!

Yeah, well somebody once stated correctly: "There's only two kinds of music: Dystopian Indie Dance music and Zippity Do-Da".

I'm reminded of the comment that Louis Armstrong is said to have made about all music being folk music,
    because we're all folks.

I truly laughed out loud at this. I am totally down with orthopedic shoe gaze as long as someone is going to roadie for me. Amps are heavy.

Too old to make up a stupid music genre which probably doesn't have more than one or two artists, even if most people don't consider it as having that many? Then you're probably also too old to be a music journalist.

I know I'm out of touch with current hot styles etc

I often ask my college age daughter to send me youtube clips of stuff she likes, stuff she knows her friends like, etc

but she's into K-Pop and Lady Gaga and other modern bands, Panic in the Disco, Pentatonix...... so I dont think she strays too far from "modern pop" genre

I've heard a lot of all that,,, its OK, Lady Gaga has some pretty good stuff. The K-Pop scene is heavily about boy bands. Pentatonix are pretty amazing at times.

I'm sure you could attribute bands and musicians to it, but it's after the fact. "Indie" and "dance" are umbrella terms anyway.

It's kind of like saying "fat pervert rock" is a music style. Sure, you can attribute artists to it, so what?

If that is dystopian indie rock, I think they named it correctly. It seems very appropriate and it will be interesting how the young generations responds to it.

I can name a bunch of 1980s bands that fit, more or less.
