Last night on the gig I spent the first half of the set wondering what was wrong with my fabulous amp, sounded all nasally and nasty but not in a good way.

Found my Wah Wah was already engaged when I stepped on it to Wah, and there was my glorious Goodsell Super 17 tone. Yes, this is the second time I’ve done this in the last year.

Lordy,..

Did a wedding last week and wondered why I was sounding like I was in a cathedral....checked everything etc ..just couldn't see what the problem was...until I noticed my echo pedal engaged...on light was covered by a lead !

There came a point a few years ago when I yanked my old LED-less stomp-switch Crybaby off my board (damaging a power lead) and threw it against the wall of our practice space. Shortly after that I got a switchless Morley Bad Horsie and I haven't looked back.

The Crybaby survived and it still sounds great. Maybe I'll use it for recording one day.

Plenty of examples, me, but my favourite (not on stage) is the time I was getting my stuff together in my basement music room to take to a friend’s house for a jam. I picked up my guitars, and realized I could hear an electronic alarm or something. I stopped and listened, and it seemed to be coming from upstairs. Maybe. Put the guitars down and looked. Nothing. Second floor. Nothing. It never seemed to be getting any louder or quieter, no matter where I looked. I stepped out onto the deck, thinking it was coming from outside. Same. I sat down to think. My Korg tuner was in my back pocket, and the button for A440 tone had been pushed.

Did something similar at a jam night. I could've sworn I switched the crybaby off. The difference was that I removed the rubber tit from mine, and the one I borrowed still had it. Which means you have to put all your weight on it.

In the mid-90s, I played a gig and we used the opening band's gear for some reason. I went to plug in to the amp and I wasn't getting any sound and I panicked.
The owner of the amp came up on stage and flipped the stand-by switch on. I had never owned an amp with a stand-by switch, and I had been playing guitar for 9 years at this point. My 63 Bassman didn't have one!

I was there. The nasally tone was better. When the tone suddenly changed, I left very dissapointed.:lol:

I modded my old Coloursound wah with an LED because this annoyed me so much (but it’s a long time now since it worked!).
My BOSS GP-10 has a light that comes on when the wah (or whatever it’s set to do) is on — thank goodness!

Back in the 90's I bought one of those red knob Fender amps with 2 10's. I also had a Digitech GSP-7 that I tried out through the effects loop at a gig. Suddenly 60 watts sounded like 5 watts. Tubes were all ok and the tech at my shop couldn't diagnose, so they replaced the amp. Then I did it again! The shop graciously let me do a swap out for a new Marshall 4502 combo. Still being too stupid to learn I tried the GSP7 through the effects loop and this time it took out the power tubes. A retube restored it back to normal and the lesson was finally learned. I still don't know what caused the Fender to be undiagnosable, but I never did that again.

3000 seat theatre. Take stage in the dark, drummer clicks off a four count, light explode on the downbeat, crowd goes wild, and out of my pair of SVTs comes… nothing. Amps on standby. Never felt like a bigger a$$ in my life.
Wow! Did you do that at the start of the next couple of tunes so it seemed normal??

Not me but the vocalist in my first band. Came to the gig dressed like Mr Peanut. Top hat, cape and cane. Count off on first song he bounces the cane on one and it comes straight up and gives him a bloody nose. 🤣

No misuse of musical gear was required in this comedy, lol.

If you were a Boston cover band, it would have worked.

(Running away before the rabid Boston fans can catch me)
