BTW for anyone who has not watched them, there are a slew of these 2 - 3 minute clips of him discussing various aspects of his career.

Spanic Boys. That’s the band he couldn’t remember. Great band.

Their bass player is an incredible songwriter. We played as the band for his CD release party for his disc Souvenirs. Mike Fredrickson. Great songs and great learning experience.

Absurd that Bottle Rockets weren’t pretty enough for SLN. Such great writers and performers.

GE is a legend to me. He was one of the old-school cats in the 90's that made playing a Tele through a blonde bassman cool again. Watching him on SNL was inspiring as there was a guy living the dream playing all this neat stuff with roots-loving musicians. He was always a highlight of my childhood Saturday nights.

GE Smith is one of my all-time favorite guitar players and session musicians.

He's been there, and done that.

AND he was married to Gilda Radner.

    So there's that.

    :)

Spanic Boys and Bottle Rockets?! Cool references! For the uninitiated, here's an infectious song by each. Both should have been monster radio hits.

Saw the Bottle Rockets a few years ago. Phenomenal live act. Brian Henneman is a great story teller too - check him out on Otis Gibbs' podcast Thanks for Giving a Damn.

“I’ll puke if that jukebox plays John Cougar one more time”.

    Always loved that line.

    And I love John Cougar!

I seem to recall that the Spanics were pinch hitting because Sinead O'Connor refused to be on the show with Andrew Dice Clay hosting. Unfortunately I can't find the original clip, but here is one of them from Conans old show.

And for good measure here is a great clip of the Bottlerockets with the original lineup on Conan in 1995. I hope Brian still has those glasses :p I have seen them live more than a few times and have always been blown away.
