Has anyone else purchased one of these Metallic Black or Metallic Orange Squire HH Teles - $359 each ?

I bought one of each to tinker with, here's what I've done so far -

POLISHED FRETS.

SWAPPED THE NECKS.

The guitars come with no-name 2-wire open coil pickups that do sound OK but . . .

I've discovered that with 4-wire humbuckers wired to do switchable SCM the guitar really shines !

ON THE BLACK ONE I'VE INSTALLED VOLUME AND TONE POTS WITH DPDT PULL-UP SWITCHES.

TO DO THAT I HAD TO REMOVE ABOUT 1/4' OF WOOD FROM THE BOTTOM CENTER OF THE CONTROL CAVITY FOR CLEARANCE.

I USED A SMALL SHARP SCREWDRIVER TO CHISEL AWAY THE WOOD A LITTLE AT A TIME.

I THEN INSTALLED A PAIR OF EPIPHONE 4-WIRE HUMBUCKER PICKUPS WIRED FOR HUMBUCKER AND SINGLE COIL MODE SWITCHING.

I WASN'T SURE OF THE COIL COLOR CODING OF THE PICKUPS SO I HAD TO TRY JUST ABOUT EVERY COMBINATION BEFORE DISCOVERING WHAT I CONSIDER IS THE BEST SOUND.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION I CONSIDER EXTREMELY VALUABLE AND HARD EARNED !

ADJUSTABLE POLE PIECE COIL -

HOT = GREEN

GROUND = BLACK

NON-ADJUSTABLE COIL -

HOT = RED

GROUND = WHITE

THE PULL-UP SWITCHES SHORT ACROSS THE RED/WHITE PAIR WHEN LIFTED.

THE COILS ARE WIRED IN SERIES -

GREEN = HOT OUTPUT TO SELECTOR SWITCH,

BLACK CONNECTS TO RED,

WHITE CONNECTS TO GROUND .

ITS THIS EVENTUAL WIRING THAT REALLY MADE THE GUITAR SOUND SO GREAT !

KEEP IN MIND THAT ALL PICKUPS DO NOT NECESSARILY FOLLOW THIS SAME COLOR CODING .

If you can do the tinkering, I hereby challenge thee !

Once you get the wiring right it's well worth it !

GOOD LUCK !

On the fly humbucker or single coil mode, 12 totally different on-the-fly combo-nizing sounds !

There's just something about that Tele shape that gets the gears going !

Here's one of the pot/switch assemblies and some SD 4 - wire PU's slated to go in the orange one.

Belly-cut on the back - fits pretty good.

Nice. Congratulations on a pair of cool new guitars!

I love an orange guitar; somehow I wound up with several of them. Belly cut is great to have on a Tele, too. This matters more to me than it used to, now that I have a belly.

Question - did those SDs come from a legit dealer? I could be mistaken, of course, but I don't think I've ever seen Seymour Duncan humbuckers with the logo off-center like that.
Even the Duncan Designed pickups made overseas have their logos in the center. I think.

Tens of thousands of counterfeit Duncans are coming out of China.
I'd check the stickers, and make sure the DCRs match published specs for those models.
Unless you're very sure. Again, though, I could be entirely wrong.

I have an orange Squier Affinity FSR similar to the OP. I changed the tuners but it's otherwise stock, and it's my #2. Great guitars!
