Picked up this early Squier Standard Strat recently, and it was very cheap, probably mainly to do with the gaudy purple colour it is. Squier did this colour on both the Teles and Strats at this time, and both had maple necks. I swapped the pickguard for a black one and added a Squier 51 humbucker in the bridge, but this ugly guitar actually plays and sounds really nice.

I seem to have a thing for gaudy Strats;-)

Holy cow, Sollophonic! I CANNOT EVEN BELIEVE that Hello Kitty Strat! Makes the "gaudy" purple one look downright normal.

What the deal with the jack plate being upside down?

Your complaining about the Purple when the other ones Pink?;)
If the Purple's too much, you could scuff the gloss down for a satin finish or do a vinyl wrap.

I've always been surprised at how well purple guitars play as well... :p

Doesn't surprise one bit that it plays well. If the neck is comfortable and the frets are level, any color guitar could play well...:)

The purple reminds me of the mopar Plum Crazy, even if it is a touch lighter.

I always GAS hard over those hello kitty strats .. they've shot way up in price lately though, so it's beyond what I can drop on something just for kicks. That one looks to have a monster bucker in it too

I do have one of the daisy rock retro-h guitars though .. in pink .. with the female gender symbol as the 12th fret inlay.. like this one

I often do this on Strats, one of the things that bugs me about them is the jack socket. Turning it this way makes it slightly easier to use, I have seen other Strat players do this too.

There's a guy over on Strat-Talk that got one just for the heck of it and tore up a rendition of Boris The Spider on it.

I had a Squier Stagemaster in the same colour, picked it up for £50 in mint condition expecting to quickly flip it at twice the price. It played really nicely but took ages to sell it for only £65.

I saw Kings X in NYC a week ago, and Ty Tabor rocked a Fender Strat of the same color.
