@ce24 They are fantastic guitars with a super comfy neck. QC on them is exceptional.

I have several Strats but I wanted a PRS Strat-alike so I spent a bunch of time with a Silver Sky and a Fiore. The SS was pretty close to my Strats, but the Fiore was quite a departure, tone-wise. It offers Strat sounds (including the 2 & 4 'quacks'), as well as six other tone selections. Eleven sounds from an HSS strat-alike? Yeah. And they are all good ones.

Not trying to change your mind...just make you aware of this model because it flies way below the radar of most players.

Obligatory Squier Bullet HSS Hardtail recommendation.

Just one man's opinion, but if u want a strat get a strat. The SE uses alternative wood and it;s not likely to sound quite like a strat. I have even heard some who bought the USA version say it's not quite the same. Nothing wrong with fender strats.....they are what PRS is copying. Some say they are an improvement but 1-thats subjective and 2- the SS USA model is expensive and for that kind of $ you can certainly get a killer CS fender model.

Having never played one, IDK. But they seem on the gear demos to be the best strat >$1000. So much so...that many people say splurging on the core is kind of waste of $.

I’ve been gassing for a Strat for quite a while now.

One problem: I can’t play the darn thing….seriously.

Do as you wish, I just want to point out that the Player Series Strats have excellent pickups (the "regular" Player Series--I haven't played a Player Plus that has the noiseless pickups).

Honestly, I think thew options are so attractive that you need to go with what feels best for you. The SE SS is a terrific guitar and at that price, great value for money. It also has a more mainstream fretboard radius. Personally, I think used Fender CS Strats are among the best values in the whole guitar world, particularly if you are patient enough to hunt down one that is the best possible match for you, so that would be my pick over a new core SS, but as I said, whatever feels good in your hands is going to be a winner. PRS and the Fender CS are crushing it when it comes to S-types, IMO.

If you've never played one, I would suggest trying a Fender EJ strat, just for kicks. I might be biased because it's one of my favorite guitars, but it plays and feels really good and sounds good too

That's a great video review--my next Strat might have to be that very same guitar!

Pickups are one of the things that people like what they like. I have never played a Player series strat where I liked the pickups...at all. Too squishy.

I had a late eighties strat plus - Wilkinson Roller Nut and Fender Lace pickups. I think this model (or at least mine was) was one of the best. Wish I still had mine.

Good luck on your quest.

Buy a used MIA Strat cheaper than anything mentioned above minus the Squire.. Play it till you wear the frets out or sell it for what you bought it for if you dont like it.. Its an MIA Strat, the Gold standard just like an MIA Tele.. Everyone copies them for a reason…

A buddy of mine called me from Goodwill a year or two ago and said they had a MIK 92-93 Squier for $40. The mechanics were all OK, altho it had been wired up wacky - a second hole dug out for an output jack plate.

He grabbed it, I did a basic fret level, got some knockoff Klusons and bent metal bridgepieces, a new pickguard and threw in a set of Wolfetones that Wolfe had custom wound for me when he was just starting out, and I swapped him an oscilloscope for. I might have $75 total into it?

It's downright scary how great this thing plays, and more importantly, sounds. Rings like a bell, sustains for days - everything you'd look for in a great Strat. People are skeptical, until they play it and hear it.

I was thinking about getting a nicer body for it, but I'm afraid to mess it up.

If you are gassing for a strat, but buy a prs, you will still end up still gassing for a strat.
Buy a good Strat, and be happy.
