There's a station off I-84 around Middletown, NY that usually has the lowest price according to gasbuddy. Someone is playin' games. They're always a nickel more than the stations you drove past when you get there.

GasBuddy relies on users to report prices. All a station has to do is have the employees report a lower price than what is on the pump and it will drive traffic into the station.

Genius, but pure evil.

Vancouver BC Canada has the reputation of highest gas prices in North America...
Today's price is hovering around $1.39 (CAD) per litre (or 3.99USD/gallon) -- it usually drops a few cents in the evening, so maybe 1.32 later...
It was $0.94 (CAD) a litre until 01 January when the federal government imposed a $.07 (CAD) per litre carbon tax (I'll bite my tongue and won't comment). I live within an hour of 4 oil refineries, for what it's worth.

These days the gas in the ground is opened by the supplier, not the station owner. The station owner buys it when they pump it. Thanks to the Internet, the suppliers can and do change prices daily to reflect changes in the international market. That actually helps keep prices lower to you, the consumer.

Garbage needs to go somewhere.

The current iteration of the lined landfill is a technological marvel. That's what we need, technology to tackle sticky problems. Or stinky problems as it were.

I used to drive I-91 past the Hartford dump, an old school unlined landfill. "They" have been working on that thing for decades to stabilize it, cap methane emissions and grow vegetation on its cap.

The new landfills are built from the ground up. They start with a thick liner to contain the liquid. They're built like a giant garbage bag, one that won't leak.

A built- in drainage system catches the leachate and drains it to an on- site water treatment facility.

Pipes are added as the stack builds up. The pipes catch methane produced by decomposition, the classic "dump stink".

There may come a day when no one remembers what a dump smells like. That may take a while in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Anyway, the built- in plumbing gathers combustible gas (mostly methane) and typically burns it off on- site to generate electricity. Most large dumps generate enough electricity they have surplus to sell.

There are plenty of engineers involved in every step of the process, plenty of skilled labor involved in making it happen and plenty of oversight to make sure it happens.

It may not be perfect but it's what we've got. It makes good sense to glean as many derivatives as we can from the process.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

last week in Kamloops it was $1.149 then overnight it shot up to $1.329 now it dropped to $1.269 I usually keep a full tank as the added weight is good ballast in the snow I fill it at 3/4 full tank , Kelowna and Vernon are always considerably higher than Kamloops and Vancouver is stupid rediculous high

Was quite pleased the other day when it was $3.70 couple of weeks ago it was over $4. We had the gas tax increased by 0.12 in 2017 and a hike of up to $175 for annual registration. There was a prop to repeal the gas tax hike but it failed to pass in 2018.

I don't really notice small fluctuations in price. Glad it didn't stay at $5+ like they said it most likely would a few years ago. Most annoying thing is CA premium is lower octane than almost anywhere else.

Been traveling over the holidays.Co to NV. $2.629(sam's club) in Pueblo.Rated @ 85 octane tho. NM was a few cents less.Saw from $2.259 to $3.499(Kingman) through Az. Gas is bout 12-20 cent cheaper north of Pueblo next town up.Remember the gas lines back in the odd/even days? I tried ethanol after reading bout it first on the EPA site.Cheaper but only gets like 10 mpg city, where reg gas was 16mpg for my flex-fuel car.No savings there! I do remember gas wars back when gas ran .20 cents. Anyone know the the last refinery was built in their state? Been a long time, huh.And I don't believe oil came from dinosaurs. And I do believe that there is the technology out there to make thing way better than present. And that is all I have to say about that ...

Given that you can't find a house for sale in Vancouver for less than a million, is this even a problem?
I was talking to a guy on a fishing boat in Montauk, NY. He was from NY state and I asked him how much he paid in property taxes. He couldn't believe what I pay in Iowa.

I'm consuming about 1000 gallons a year, about 20k miles a year. $.25 a gallon difference means about $250 a year for me - that's noise compared to the value of getting from A to B, and insignificant compared to other expenses. For instance, I finally started back taking my lunch to work. That got me to stop eating out at night when the fam is working late. I was eating out or fast food 6-8 times a week. That has saved me nearly $300 a month. MUCH more important than gas prices.

Portland is generally ~$0.75 higher than the national average (currently a station sorta nearby that I would never patronize is $3.49 per gallon)...give or take. I'm presuming that's for the cheaper of the lot. There are lots of reasons I imagine.

I don't drive much...less than 5k per year...so when not using alcohol free, I use premium or super or whatever they call it. It boosts my mileage about 10-15%. I'm hoping it's also easier on the little squirrel cage motor I have.

Spouse laughs. She's from Tokyo...where I wouldn't consider driving...She says gas is cheap here. I think she's correct.

Then, there's Malibu. I'm glad I don't live in Malibu.

We call a gallon 4.54 litres. Petrol can be as high as $1.70 AUD a litre. That's $7.71 (.8) per gallon.
Not many big engine cars here mate.

(truncated)Most annoying thing is CA premium is lower octane than almost anywhere else.

Trick is to buy your "premium" at the local race track. You're using it "for off road use" anyway, right?

We have a short track practically in our backyard. Wouldn't have it any other way.

We have the NASCAR track. Gas station over there has 100 octane at the pump if you're willing to pay for it. It's only double what you pay for plain old Super in California.

The fuel shed at New England Dragway is a boutique of gasoline. You can get anything you want over there right up to high octane leaded. If I remember correctly the stuff is purple and contains so much tetraethyl lead your muscle car will crap buckshot. The stuff is primarily intended for high performance vintage aircraft, for example if you have a million dollar Mustang (the one with wings) you don't want the engine to rattle like an old Pinto.

We can get a few grades of anhydrous alcohol, non- oxygenated if you want the full 900hp from your sprint car or oxygenated for your old alky funny car.

Yes, a place near our COSTCO was and maybe still is doing that.

If planned or if I'm near I just go to COSTCO or the farmer's co-op where both have a good reputation for their business practices.

The farmer's co-op discount requires the semi-retro method of going inside and swiping their own card but I always feel compelled to keep the institution going if only for the few times a year I guy non-alcohol gasoline and their hardware store part of their operation.

I'm convinced most here would love our farmer's co-op. Not just because of the fuel types and prices, but for their hardware store part of the operation. Imagine a place that still sells quality shovels, rakes, hoses, wheelbarrows and other hardware items of quality.

I was not too far from you a few months ago to see my sister in Pueblo West, and a funeral in Pueblo. Quite an interesting area, and very different from where I live.

If you're earning under $100,000 a year, (like me), you'll sleep easier and worry less about product pricing if you learn a yoga like exercise called 'bend over and grab your ankles'. This exercise can also be useful for concert ticket prices, taxes, instrument sale prices, new car buying, etc., etc., etc.

Comparatively... here in Winnipeg the current price is around $1.05 per litre. We are often lower than Edmonton.... where the majority of the refineries are in the west. That makes no sense at all.

The entire west coast... both of Canada and the US get screwed with gas prices. The industry blames the mountains... the reality is the population and profits! (IMO of course)
