Picked up the tele this morning. Haven't played it for a minute, got other guitars. Got the strings a little warm, started to smell a little funk, not bad, but unexpected. I made steak tacos on Monday, had crushed up some garlic, evidently didn't wash my hands but needed to play the tele. One must live with the consequnces of ones actions. I'm good with it.

I don’t know that I’d mind a garlic-smelling guitar. Especially if it was my cooking project that made it smell that way.

When I was a kid I bought a brand new Kramer (aluminum neck with wood inlaid fingerboard). That day my mom cooked scallops. I did NOT touch any as I ate. Band practice that night...and the guitar smelled like fish for as long as I owned it.

LOL....... I have an old SF twin that doesn't get a lot of use anymore...but when I do fire it up, and get it good and warmed up, I can smell stale beer and cigerette smoke. No joke.
I haven't giged out regularly with it in ...maybe 15 years.
I think I'd rather have garlic.

Now you just need it to smell like grilled steak and roasted potatoes and you've got a Tele that plays like a meal.

Bought an old beat up Clapton strat a few years ago, guy who had it loved garlic, very strong odor emanating from the neck. The neck was pretty much shot anyway, so I replaced it with a Warmoth neck and trashed the old one. That took care of the odor, thank goodness. I love garlic but not on my guitar neck.

He had told me it wasn't the original neck anyway, he bought it on eBay. Have no idea what happened to the original. As a bonus, IMHO it plays much better with the Warmoth neck.

I just quickly rinse and oil my Tele after cooking. Thinlines are more difficult. Hard to get all food food particles out, those f-holes are pain in the ass sometimes.
