Yes well, thanks to the lock down I'm going to practice my patience as it will likely take to March before that Sunburst Artist arrives for me to retrieve.

And while I'm waiting I decided to check Reverb for new press releases for Winter NAMM 2021 and what do I see?

Which they also offer in sunburst...

AAAARGH! This is not fair, these are specs wise and looks wise so much more to I want than the model which is already ordered by me is.

Too late to cancel? Perhaps Get them on the phone and ask if they will accept the return knowing that you are still buying from them. I would give it a shot, anyway. Nothing to lose here, either by you or them, except a few bucks in shipping.

Those are beauties. Not a fan of the tailpiece, however. And is that gold hardware? Sure would prefer nickel or chrome ... LOL. Yes, very very nice.

That’s the classic tailpiece for these models. Gotta have it. Also the gold hardware. That’s just part of what this model is all about. Like an ashtray bridge and a black guard on a 50’s style tele.

Are those made in Japan or elsewhere? Lovely guitars.

I haven't seen any NAMM announcements yet. Always fun to see what's coming.

As for that tailpiece filigree, I took that off mine for awhile, but eventually put it back on and left it there.

Geez, does that ever look familiar. Behold, an old Yamaha SG3000:

Yup, I had the lowly SG800, but still the heaviest electric I've ever owned, but what a great guitar.

OP, do you have a link to the article? I'm having trouble locating it on Reverb. It's probably someplace obvious.

    Yup.
Call your guy and see if you can swap the ordered guitar for one of these. If it hasn't left the warehouse yet, a swap might be possible.
With the quarantine being different in different places, you might have to wait a while for the new Ibanez to hit these shores.
Sales are slow and tough right now, so I think you could swap without much difficulty.

I ordered an Ibanez custom shop Talman a few years ago, which was made as a sunburst or a blonde. I ordered a blonde, but the sunbursts came first, and I took one of them instead of waiting for a blonde for 3-4 months more.

I like the guitar quite a lot, and was never set on the blonde; either finish looked as good to me. The burst was very well done on the guitar.
    regards,
    stanger

It's just me, but I'm really repulsed by the combination flame maple+sunburst in general.

Yes, both Ibanez and Yamaha have been using that shape since about 1974 - I did a quick search for old catalogs and the first of the Yamaha SG/SBG shape and the first Ibanez Artist shape show up in catalogs dated for that year. The Yamaha has always looked to me as somewhat more angular/SG-ish while the Ibanez is more like changing a Les Paul to 2 horns (not the flatter LP Jr./Special Doublecut shape).

Not a Reverb article but they are already on the Ibanez website - here's a link to their "New for 2021" page:
