My guitar is my avatar. She's a peach.

What's interesting about G&Ls is that people tend to try to compare their sound.

"It's kind of like a Tele on steroids".

    (and it is)

"Sounds like an SG and Tele, combined".

    (and it does)

I know I made these comparisons for awhile. But I've had my G&L for about 2 years now and it's gotten to the point where I have to say that it sounds like a G&L ASAT Classic. The guitar has it's own voice and feel.

And that is a very, very, very good thing.

I had an ASAT classic, A `94 model with a hard V birdeye neck just killer sounding but the hard V neck was killing my hand!

Getting an ASAT Special next year. (I prefer the fatter jumbo pups and the saddle lock bridge) Will join in the fun.

Sweet. I had a very hard time deciding between the color scheme that you see on my avatar and that transparent orange. That's such a beautiful look and they use only the nicest looking grains for that finish.
What kind of fingerboard did you choose? Headstock matches the neck or body?
I think you'll really like this ax. The tones are excellent.

Here it is. If I don't mention something, I'm going for the default.

    NECK:
profile: super wide (1 3/4" nut)
    fretboard: ebony

    BODY:
    finish: clear orange
    pickguard: tortoise shell
    pickup covers: black

I picked the "clear orange" because it's a distinctive G&L finish. I like the jazzy look of tortoise shell and I couldn't resist ebony. The initial reason I had for considering G&L was that they offered a 1 3/4" nut.

I didn't go for the matching headstock -- the guitar was getting expensive enough!

I love the 1 3/4" nut on mine. I can honestly say that I always have a hard time putting it down. Such a great feel.

I would have opted for the standard natural color headstock, too. The orange is such a strong color that, for me at least, it doesn't really need to be repeated.

Very cool shot with the kid playing recorder. Rock on, bruddah! And those two guits after look great.

Here's mine with my BillM modded BJ. 30 watts. Lightweight and sounds so good. These two are a match made in heaven:

Somehow I managed to buy ten ASATS and not one of them is a Classic

Well I did buy one that was sold as a Classic, turns out it's the pre 2000 version of the Classic Custom.

Guess it'll have to do ...

It's an alder body with an ash top, rear contour and pearloid guard. The pickups have been changed to Wilde hum free L200s.

My ASAT Classic (center) was my #1 until I retired it from gigging a while back.

I still love it, as you can tell by my signature.

Southpaw I believe has a nice G&L collection and it is rumored he is a Heritage fan as well.

Love that picture of dad and son jamming, God bless.

So a friend may have a mint ASAT Classic natural finish with great grain, what's a good price? Anyone want to weigh in on the tonal difference between a Classic and a American Standard or say a 52RI?

G&L does make some very fine geetars ....

ASAT Classic Custom, the post 2002 model with an overwound large MFD in the neck ... a fatter than fat single coil tone.

This one has an ash body with a satin finish chunky birds eye maple neck, also has a single ply pickguard.
