John Frusciante's 62 sunburst Strat would look good in my house.

I think I could trade a guitar I built myself for that one

Which Martin Dreadnought is that? If I had a Martin D-style guitar, I'd hold on to it too.

My other brother got one 25 or so years ago. I've never played a guitar that played so easily and, at the same time, had such a great tone. His was a D-28.

I don't have a favourite guitar. 2 or 3 of them have some sentimental value, but in the end, it is just some wood and strings.

Sure, I'd trade it for this, flip it and buy whatever guitar I wanted...and a Ferrari.

I mean, it's only 342 yrs old and the only one extant. I'm sure it would appreciate in value eventually.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I have more than one because I like guitars. My favorite is the one I pick up most often because it’s just a better machine than the rest of them. I’d probably trade for an upgrade of the same make and model if the opportunity presented itself.

Nope- I like my 17 year old Highway 1 Telecaster too much to part with it. It has Alnico 11 pickups and a Gotoh six way saddle system, excellent neck ( many people have asked me to build a guitar with that shape) and I love it. Sounds really good.

I "might" trade the 51 Nocaster (Irene) I built for a real 51 Nocaster but.... I'd have to think about it  The real 51 better be just as sweet or more than Irene or no deal 20181215_125353.jpg

Never. It's just a lowly 2004-5 MIM Tele, not even in my favorite color, but it got me playing again, and means too much to me personally.

There are maybe five 'famous' guitars I'd really love to have, but I wouldn't pay more than a couple grand for any of them, and a knockoff/reissue would be completely sufficient for me in every case.

I have done it twice (young and stupid) and deeply regretted it both times. Took years to find a replacement. My current number 1 I built to my specs 25 years ago so it's not going anywhere. I know every dent and scratch on it because I put it there. It feels like it's part of me when I play it.

Ehhh, if I couldn’t turn around and sell it were it to belong to someone famous, probably not. I’ll stick with what I’ve got.

I don't think I would. Or maybe I would if I could try out the guitar for a while first. Because what if the guitar isn't really that great? There's a very real possibility that some other guitar could be disappointing to me.

It is a 1993 budget D-1 that I bought new, and with little exceptions (until 2019), my only acoustic since I got it.

Some of the cost cutters on this model:
A- frame bracing, bolt-on ( inside) and glued in neck
    - solid spruce top and solid mahogany back, laminated sides- definitely a lower grade in the appearance of the woods- NOT the sound, IMO
    - thin satin finish which has turned into a semi-gloss from all the playing

I have taken it thru hell and back over the years with gigs in all kinds weather; dropped a speaker stand on the top, cracked it and did not fix it for over 10 years.
It needs frets #4 now ( soon) but is light, comfy action; warm and bright tone- bass but not boomy. Well-balanced, great player,
    It sounds like it looks!

My favorite guitars are builds I did myself. I guess I would be willing to give one up for something mythical...Like Duane Allman's '59 Les Paul, or one of Jimi's Strats he didn't burn.

Of course I'd have to turn Jimi's Strat back around and string it normal.

I forget which ones but in the lobby of the R&R Hall of Fame ( went there twice years ago) there are ( I think) 2 of Jerry's guitars in a display case- I think either Irwin or maybe later Cripes ones...

Since they are in the Lobby, and not before you pay to go inside, you can see for free. ( but you really wouldn't be there unless you were gonna go inside, right?)

I’m very happy to say, “no”.
Quite satisfied with what I have for reasons no one else may understand.

Nope. Every time I looked at the guitar, I’d feel bad, like I’d let a friend down. My ‘65 Danelectro goes to my oldest friend when I pass—we learned guitar together as kids.

I'd happily trade my Tele Deluxe or standard or LP Custom or my trusty, crusty old Strat for Paul Weller's Ric 300. Just because of the magic.
