Very interested in this as well. At least 3 of my favorite guitarists us the FD2, but the FD3 seems like a definite improvement.

Non Mosfet FD-2 > FD-3 > Mosfet FD-2.

Non-Mosfet and FD-3 are warmer. Some say the FD-3 is warmest of all and too dark for some. I use bright switch on Fender amps and it's all good.

I can't vote because I prefer the pre-mosfet FD2 to both choices.

I've owned them all, and owned all the toggle switch versions of the FD2 (including the mosfets) simultaneously. The Pre-mosfet FD2 always wins.

The FD3 is a nice pedal, and I guess if pressed I'd choose it over the FD2 mosfet, which I find too bright at any setting. The mosfet versions lost some of the warmth and fatness the FD2 was always known for. JMO

I agree with Ruger on this one. Non-mosfets fd2's just sound warmer, more natural, and better in my opinion

I have a FD2 Mosfet. I don't run it in the Mosfet mode though. I use the FM mode also. Mine sounds big and fat.
(amp is a '93 Fender Blues DeVille)

Just an FYI, even the standard mode on the mosfet FD2s was revoiced to be brighter.

Those Blues Devilles were awesome amps. Heavy as hell, but great tone. A buddy of mine still plays one- everything from classic rock to SRV to EVH.

I assume you mean that the Pull Comp Cut version is better / warmer than the pre-Mosfet with the toggle?

I can't speak to that... I've never owned a pre-toggle FD2. I'm saying all the toggle switch versions of the FD2 that were pre-mosfet are warmer/fatter than the mosfet FD2 versions.

My fav is the push pull non toggle FD2. Definitely the warmest of the bunch. I played the white knob version, not that there is any difference.

I have the FD2 MOSFET with toggle. I'm very pleased. Haven't honestly tried the other versions. I use it at very low gain settings just to get gritty or fatten up a Strat bridge pickup, then use the boost to push the amp into a low-ish level overdrive.

Two years later....do any new users want to take a stab at adding some input to this thread?

My specific question,

Does the FD3 have an equivalent to the Flat mid switch on the FD2?

I'm running a current FD2 Mosfet with the two toggles. Really does it's job well and better than all of my other dirt pedals. It sounds fantastic into my 5f11 and into my Vibro-Champ. When I run my direct (sansamp) rig it gets a little choppier than I usually like, but it still serves its purpose than the other dirt pedals in my collection (TS808, Soul Food, Tube King, homebrew tube pedal, various fuzzes...etc...)

The FD3 was dark, but I really liked the fact that the boos was completely separate from the dirt. Never had a chance to play a non-mosfet version.

I have an FD3 black into a Vox (TB18C1) which is a "brighter" amp. I really like this pedal into a Vox amp. Its just an excellent execution of a "dirt box."

Can't compare it against the Mosfet version, but I see no need to switch either. Very happy with it.

Thanks, I have a super mid heavy (to my ears) AC15C1. I'm trying to figure out which version would be a better fit.

Yes, that mids thing...very familiar with it...had an AC15C1 for a bit then this amp, which has "mids boost" - not really needed, but its there and it boosts well...

The FD3 gives me a nice tight but creamy mids thing - very tubery - I like it. Its suppose to be the most "tube like" FD thus far - I can't argue against that....it sounds really good...

At the end of the day, play both into an AC15C1 and see which one wins...if you can.
