Maybe some of you know, Steve Earle's son Justin Townes passed on (via OD) last August.
Steve's new album "J.T." is all songs his son wrote. It's got a Jan 4 release and this one is off it

That's a real good song, I like the original version a bit more though. Doesn't the idea of this album seem a bit...off, though? I guess I wouldn't to be seen as making a buck off of my son's death. I dunno. Maybe the profits go somewhere good?

I know he did the TVZ covers album too, and I mostly liked the originals more than Steve's covers there as well.

Edit: I think what bugs me is his vocal delivery these days. It sounds gratingly off key to me and done maybe on purpose.

well I dunno, I've always liked Steve's unique vocal stylings
the album is supposeBly the idea of a tribute to his son, recording the songs he wrote.
I ...have no idea how he's able to bear to do that

All proceeds will go in a trust fund for JT's daughter.

He's a little flat sometimes but it's that earnest punk country delivery that sells me. Some buy it and some don't. But I grew up on the low side of the suburbs so I can relate.

I agree, when i hear Steve sing, to me he's the real deal, 100 proof

Man this song has been haunting me
Here's the orig studio, less zydeco than Steve's, and more red dirt roots-rock americana

Justin certainly had his dad's songwriting talent

I like the song and the idea of a tribute to his son, especially with proceeds to the daughter.

Still pissed at Steve after the swipe at Hayes Carll, but I do like his sound.

That's all over a woman. Not that it makes it ok but...these things happen.
Steve does at times need to learn to keep his mouth shut.
Anyone who's seen him live knows that
