I was waiting for that comment to appear. Other stuff we put in there is probably not "real chili" either - like ground beef? WHT?:lol::lol:

    Variations, right?

seem to remember that someone in the OP's household might be gluten intolerant so the Potato rescue, or the more efficient white rice rescue may not be an option. For other folks, you take some cooked white rice, throw it in a blender with some water (or beer!), and add that slurry to the chili, or bean soup, as you prefer.

If you can't use gluten, you could use the same technique with beans - toss the beans in a blender with enough liquid to make a slurry, then add that to the pot.

If you're in NE Ohio, nobody cares what you put in your chili or what you call it. Win-win.

What is it with salt and pepper grinders??

My girlfriend got me a really nice set about three years ago, and they weren't cheap. It isn't as though they have seen hundreds of hours of use, but the pepper grinder has frequently come apart/unscrewed at the top and dumped peppercorns into our food.

I had a NY strip at the Primehouse on 27th Street (when it still existed). You could choose the number of aging days from a selection on the menu, and I apparently chose wrong.

It was truly awful. The meat could have been a rotten slab of chuck steak pulled out of a dumpster, and I wouldn't have noticed because it was so freakin' salty.

Uhh, potatoes and rice aren’t gluten delivery devices. Not all starches are created equal.

Gluten is a protein, not a starch.

Yeah, but we are also low carb. That is why there is only one can of beans for over two pounds of meat and other veggies.

We had a really nice acryllic one 20 years ago - it worked and lasted a long time. These new ones are made more inexpensively - plastic is much thinner - from what I have seen. But I agree - the dump thing is a pain, then someone always seems to bite into a nut or a lock washer you missed during reassembly.

If I had a pot of oversalted chili, I guess I would have to wash it down with a little more beer than usual.

Hey, man, I can only respond to what I see here! ;)
That’s a pretty solid ratio either way though.

You mean you don't read through my last few thousand posts to get an idea of what I'm about before you respond? It's all out there in black and yellow! :D
