Changed to neck I had refretted a yr ago, transferred the tuners, and a quick setup in 44 minutes.
I did that in 43 minutes once.
42, 42. Will anyone bid 42 minutes?
Less than an hour is a feat; you have my respect.
45 minutes to change all 6 strings.
45 minutes to tune all 6 strings.
I can buy a new guitar in less than 3 minutes.....
Sounds like one could do a complete refret between sets.
I’m not fast. I lost 5 minutes looking for tools when I thought I had all the tools at the start.
It was going back to the original neck so I didn’t expect issues.
Now I have a year or two to refret the spare neck.
True, if I had an extra set of tuners.
So you did the work in 39 minutes, not even 44 minutes.
Out of curiosity, did you level crown an polish or just laid the frets in?
And how much fret end dressing did you do?
.... uuuuuuuh... pay attention boys
I used to have over 20 guitars. String changes took about a day and a half. Now I don't have all the guitars so string changes are quicker, but they still take a day and a half due to the autoharp I picked up. Heck, TUNING it takes almost that long!
45 days, and still counting..
Still stretching strings and retuning. Could refine the setup, but it’s good for now. Needs some new bridge barrels, 3 are slotted.
I would hope that any tech I took my guitar to would take enough time to do a really good job refretting it. It takes me a couple of hours to do a simple refret, another hour or two for complex ones. Setup an hour, maybe need to make a new nut (another half hour). When I do frets I like to let it set over night. So when someone brings me a guitar for frets I tell them three to four hours, materials might be 25 bucks and I want the guitar over night.
But then I'm old and slow and fretwork isn't a race.
I didn’t do the refret. Actually just a neck swap back to the original neck. The refret was done by a master luthier at PRS.
if you start from the time I pulled the neck, got it refretted, and back on the guitar it was about 2 yrs.
I hope she took longer than 44 minutes
Isn't it more effort to refret a maple neck?
I refretted one lacquered maple neck for a friend and it was such a hassle that I swore never again. I posted a little thread showing how I did it and someone commented that the going rate is $400.
So, while I do lots of neck refrets, both unbound and bound, I will not do one with side pressed frets, one with nibs or a lacquered maple neck. I'm capable, I just don't want to.
so you didn't even stretch the strings out? I guess installing tuners in less than an hour is pretty good.
What was the point of this thread again? It had nothing to do with refretting did it?
