I almost went this year without buying anything guitar related, not even strings... but I'm about to get a Gretsch G5622t just in time for Xmas

I dig that! I've got a partscaster Strat with a single HB. Lots of fun to play, sounds nothing like a Strat.

I really like the look of that Yamaha for some reason. I was watching a CAR one on Reverb but it sold. Nice Junior, too!

I discovered the lipstick pickup, when:

I got a Dano Hodad baritone - it blew my socks off; then...

I saw a Jerry Jones 3 PU on facebook within driving distance. My plan was to use the parts to build a JJ scale bari (28") - BUT, I recorded this thing once and was shocked at how great it sounded. Humorous story - the seller said that the key to the case had been lost and he had to break the case latches to get the guitar out. Apparently this kept the guitar from being played for years. The guitar was as new. $680. Still amazing to think that a 1990's Jerry Jones is over 20 years old. Certainly my deal of the year. Then...

I saw a Dano 4 string bass on ebay with JJ pickups. OK this will be the bones of my my 28" scale baritone. $350 shipped. Sorry, its one of the coolest sounding and easiest playing basses I've ever had - a keeper as is. THEN..... (sigh)

I saw a JJ baritone on ebay and made a bid thinking I wouldnt win - even so it was WAY more than I intended to ever spend on a guitar again. Yikes! I won - this thing plays GREAT - not quite a twangy as the Dano but set up as is, plays as easy as a guitar and still sounds amazing.

All of this after saying I wasnt gonna buy not NO more guitars.

Nothing major, but I picked up a BBE Boosta Grande that is now my favorite boost pedal and has taught me once again that effects do not have to be expensive to be good.

I loaded this up thinking 'well, if you're only going to get one guitar in a year, that's a pretty good choice... Oh no, he got two... And a Danocaster... Damn!'

First up this year was a weird one but something I've always been curious about, a Gibson with the Moog circuitry. I'm not blown away with the circuit to be honest, it's interesting I guess but not massively useful. The guitar itself is great though, beautifully made, plays great and it was close to half the price of a late 70s 335. The Artist was most expensive ES of its day and it shows in the build quality.

Then I was good for six months, until this happened. It's a '66 with a gorgeous figured top. Changed electronics (to Seth Lovers, which I'm very impressed with) and it was a sensible price. It's one of the best sounding ES3*5s I've had the pleasure of so I'm very pleased with this one.

After that a cheapy, saw this pretty little '65 Dano Convertible for £300 and thought why not. It's fun, nice and loud acoustically so it's a good couch guitar.

Finally I've been watching 90s Les Paul Specials for a while, and the TV yellow ones get snapped up very quickly, so when one showed up for a fair price a couple of months ago I grabbed it. I added the Bigsby, using a chopped up Vibramate so it doesn't look as clumsy as the usual Vibramate set up. I might change the pickups at some point but it's a great player.

One amp: A 20-year old, well-broken-in Peavey Delta Blues 210.

A few pedals: EHX Canyon (absurdly versatile delay), Wampler Doctor (low-fi ambient delay, I like it but I'm still deciding if it's actually useful), Boss SD-1 (which seems like saying "hey, I bought a plunger," but that's how good the thing is; it's so essential I don't notice it).

    A Souldier strap.
