You may be on to something. I’m chewing on some sort of Tele-Jeff Beck Esquire-PRS-SG hybrid thingy.
Interestingly, I have a 3.37 lb Swamp Warmoth Body I got off reverb while back. It was sprayed black with what looks like different cans/brands of black dejour, no grain fill. I can pop it thru the drum sander, but the sides/time.?. I figured it was gunna be a burst whatever I do..

I built a barn wood tele clone out of a piece of wood that was about an inch too short and had a big knot in the cutaway horn, The guitar cam out OK but the shorter body bothers me a bit when I play it sitting down, it moves my picking hand forward just enough that its over the end of the fretboard - just changes the whole feel,

So THAT's why that guitar has the odd shape. I've often wondered about it when you've posted it. It's always seemed unusual for something you built.

Yeah, I guess length would make more difference. So far I'm just reducing width.

One plank from the old barn yielded four perfect tele sized bodies and I had one little piece of the wood left that was too short and had the knot hole. If figured since I was going to keep it for myself it could be a bit odd. Works and plays fine, but I do notice the short er body when I'm sitting.

I hope you know I meant no disrespect. I understand your reasoning. I’ve just always wondered what was up with it. Now it makes perfect sense.

Warmoth sells tele bodies as 7/8th scale, for use with shorter scale necks.
They didn't want to alter the outer contours to the point of not fitting the control plate etc, so they mostly just removed material in a similar way to what FK had to do.
