When it came to Rock, the eighties really ran the gauntlet from bands like THIS...

    ...to bands like THIS.

But with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion and The Pixies it was also a case of them belonging to a very specific kind of Rock: Hair metal with the former and Alternative Rock with the latter.

So it's easy to forget that with those very prolific scenes, there still was normal Rock out there with the likes of Bryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen.

But let's talk about the eighties rock bands that seemingly nobody remembers.

    Vitesse "Good Lookin'"
This band came to be in the mid seventies when Drummer/Lead singer Herman Van Boeien decided that he wanted to form a rock band and for 19 years he had over 40 people coming in and out. Apparently he isn't the nicest guy to hang around with. But the music is just simple feel good, cruising down the highway, rock.

Here's some former Vitesse members who decided that they could make it alone.

    Powerplay "Make it alone"
The good thing about Youtube is that people are now rediscovering bands like Powerplay. The general consensus about them is that they are very similar to the Outfield but it's actually the other way around, the Outfield are similar to Powerplay, since the Outfield came around five years later.

Powerplay "Love can break your heart"

These days Powerplay have reformed since more and more people are discovering their music.

I would share my favorite forgotten '80s bands, but I can't remember any.

Cyndi Lauper (with help from Eric Bazilion and Rob Hyman of The Hooters)

Loved April Wine, Point Blank and Head East back in the 80's. Y & T are pretty much forgotten in my area, but probably get a lot of play in California where they were from.
Listened to MSG a lot back in those days.

    Forgotten

    80s

    Rock

3 words that all go together perfectly well in my world.

They were forgotten for a reason. Let's help them stay that way.

Huey Lewis & the News had a great run. Sports is still one of my favorite albums ever.

The Hooters were another excellent 80s band. I saw them with Squeeze at the Foxx in Atlanta in August of '85. That's still one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
