Being 70 and fronting a band as guitar and singer it's getting harder... So I've found a very cool way to stream and vaporize my throat and vocal cords.... Put two drops of eucalyptus into a coffee cup bring to a boil on microwave and put in a quality water bottle like this and inhale for as long as you like. I do it throughout the day. Reheating as necessary. It has done wonders for my lungs and vocal cords.... Make sure you suck in the cooler air around the nozzle or you may burn your throat a little... At 73 I have the same issue.
So.... you take a microwave to the gig now?
    Which ones have "the mojo"?

Lol…no but if you buy a quality thermal water bottle……maybe you didn't you know, but these days they can hold heat for a long time? Peppermint oil is good too.

Im very fortunate to be 68 and have a strong voice.

2 weeks ago I did 4 shows in 7 days, solo, for 3 hrs each... without a problem.

And, I usually sing pretty HARD. (depends on the song.)

Ive been singing in front of folks for over 45 years, and only had problems at the very beginning.

I suppose that I really didnt know how to sing, properly, and would get hoarse very quickly.

Somehow, through trial and error, I learned what to do... and not do.

So, except for a few years ago, for a week or so, when I had to perform with a bad cold, everything has been fine.

As I said... I've been lucky.

    Your method sounds good.

    Whatever helps!

I might try it. I use menthol cough drops now. I wish they would make them in miniatures, that would be perfect.

I was still strong at 68 too. At 73, man it's the pits; dry throat, voice starting to "auto tremelo", must concentrate on pitch..... good luck! A few are able to maintain the voice well into their late 70's.

The problem with drops is they do nothing for your vocal cords….vocal cords are in your airway, thats why breathing in the the vapors gets to your vocal cords and not just your throat.

The drops are the same really. The vapor as it melts in your mouth is laden with menthol, you breathe a bit just like the vapor. Even Vicks Vapor rub on your chest gets in a bit. :D
That's my story anyway and I'm stickin with it!

    Update on this regimen…

WOW……I do this ALMOST daily but definitely after a gig and practice….here is what it does for me……i can breath quite a bit deeper in my lungs and I'm singing clearer and reaching higher notes….not a lot higher but higher than ive been able to for a long time. It just works….
