    Why?

I've seen numerous pics of guitars with the pick between the strings way up by the 1st fret.

Is that where you're strumming? Never understood it.

    Hmmm.....

If you're saying you see people do that while/during playing or performing?.....I've never seen that.
When I'm done practicing or taking a break I almost always keep my pick weaved between the strings on the first fret.
I've only lost 100K or so picks in my life so that's my rationale.

If I'm misunderstanding your question just ignore me. :)

    Back to it....

I've seen Keef strumming up around the twelfth fret or so.....is that ok?

The pick storage mystery is only the tip of the iceberg. What I want to know is why people put loose change into one of their pockets instead of throwing it on the ground. I could never figure that out.

I do it. Locks the tone in between sessions.

I like the pick tension better down about at the 4th fret. On my fingerstyle microtonal guitars

More retention power? I guess near the bridge would be the same... The fretting hand is more nimble and weaving the pick into the strings is easier, then you can hand the pick to yourself...

Well, if you mean the last fret at the top of the neck ...
Next time you pick up a guitar, experiment with moving your picking hand from back by the bridge up to that aforementioned fret at the top. It sounds different when you pick different places, louder or quieter etc. experiment.

It's to pre-warp your picks and make them directional like your cable.

It bends the string making it easier to get under the string up there when playing.
Recommended by one of the Youtuber guitar guys who's name I cant recall atm.
Push it in far enough and it will change a 7.25 radius into a 12 inch.

Those who place their pics in such a manner are members of the secret organization that has sworn to secrecy the fact that the very best tone is produced by using the pic in such a manner. The most important part of the ritual is to pick the string NEXT to the one being fretted.
