My mom's basement.
During my oil change wait were two women next to me also tech workers at laptops. The senior looking about my age says to the other I'd guess in her 30s "You will never have my job if you just tell a physician you can only put 256 characters in the field and a carriage return counts as one.".

Back in the '70s I sharpened the pencil the doctor scribbled with.

Epic is …..epic. I have to maintain 7 certs just to do my job (well)
I am convinced the epic business model is to make everything so completely convoluted that you have to have a dedicated in-house specialist at every outpost. Yeah it works great but it's crazy stuff. Their eccentric headquarters is just down the road from me. I am reminded of a lavish casino every time I visit the campus there, in the sense of that it's obvious who makes the money

I remember when we did the conversions for EPIC. It was a monster. It sure eliminated a lot of jobs after that. All the Siemens and Invision people were not happy. I hear the people who are certified in EPIC make some good bank though.
The certs don’t necessarily guarantee good bank, but they do make for some good job security.

I remember when a lot of our guys were going out to their campus in Wisconsin for classes. I saw many a defeated face upon their return.

Ah, I guess some here might know both cultures of the physicians and Epic. An insider told me that small field limitation is why it is fast.

@Knows3Chords @blowtorch @dankilling @BigDaddyLH I joke both Epic and the provider have progressed. When they converted years ago I was with an infant while a nurses's aid was reading all those screens. She asked about the baby's smoking habits.

Epic is part of the prosperity here but they also chew up a lot of young people who will never get a job with some permanence. Judy Faulkner has pledged to give 99% of her $ billions away but as of yet she's done nothing like the Morgridges have while still alive. I don't know what her "for health care" means relative to some other billionaires with roots in the area. John and Tasha Morgridge for example have done amazing things while still alive, and things geared for all when not for those truly in need.
