I had no idea people hated JB. I don't see what the big deal is, or why people would put so much energy into hating someone when there are people/bands far more deserving of our disgust and disdain. Jerry Garcia/The Dead spring to mind.

Why is he hated is it because he is talented and has a envious collection of vintage gear ?

    7 pages of:

    "People hate JB?"

    "Why do people hate JB?"

"I didn't know people hate JB?"

    "I love JB!"

I'm starting to think no one really hates JB. Could this title be clickbait?

Well I don't hate the guy and give him his due, he can play but..... as an old dog from the 60's and a follower of the old blues guys, (now mostly deceased) I just don't hear originality. To me he's like a reproducer and maybe an interpreter but for all the "technical prowess" he doesn't move me or say anything and I'd rather have say Albert King chilling you with one note! Oh and most of my heroes started poor and in blue jeans and ended up wearing suits - Joe began in a suit!

This is much more what Joe B should be doing. Cover stuff like this and then, write stuff like this.

And stop with the "No, Woe is Not Me Blues".

Bonamassa plays with a Triumphant, emphatic style and to me, that's totally at odds with authentic blues. If you DO know how to read and write and your luck has been nothing but good; and not only do you have $ 700 in your pocket but you have $ 70 Million in the bank, you don't have the blues and you essentially have no business wasting time trying to replicate blues.

to me, the guy is more than enough of a farce that it is certainly not worth the untold reams of forum page discussion that has been devoted to the topic. the guy plays very well but his talent never really caught hold of me or made me feel strongly one way or the other. a lot of fireworks in service of nothing.

he's an excellent and tragi-comic example of how people for the last 15 years or so have felt it necessary to market themselves and the products / artistic output that they create as "brands." i find the whole thing impossibly cringey.

in my view, if was good enough to stand on its own 2 legs in the first place, you wouldn't need to be selling pint glasses, guitar picks, and other knick knacks.

for those of you who think he is the second coming, please rest assured that my criticism is no personal slight against you or your taste. i am friends with musicians who love and adore KISS, and will sing the praises of that band until the day they die. like many things, this does not "matter" in the true sense of life or death, starvation, warfare, and pestilence terms. pop music and candy wrappers.

for my own part, i'd rather listen to the guitar solo that trent reznor played on "ruiner." he later admitted that he concocted the whole thing as a joke. take it as you will.

Dude can shred, but he always comes to me like a guitar prodigy that, at some time, decided that he didn't want to end up like Malmsteen, so he started singing. I would agree with everyone that said his songs are crowded with solos and speedy passages etc. Blues isn't about that for me.
I feel a lot of people can, and do, play guitar really well. There are way fewer, the .0000001 percentile who have beautiful voices I want to hear. Bonamassa isn't in that % for me.

I’m not a big fan, It may not be popular, but overall, I like him. He’s definitely a gear head and loves talking about it. I can’t recall a interview where I thought what an a-hole. He can play, that’s for sure. I think a lot of what I don’t like is due to his management. IMO his over saturation has resulted in some weak material. This coming from someone with no success what so ever. He definitely is work horse, and I’ve never seen anything hinting the people he plays with don’t want to be there. I think what is off putting for me is he put off an arrogance when performing.

He seems cool and I dug that song that was posted earlier. His rythmn playing sounds really good, but I thought his lead playing on his solo would have more feeling to it.
