I only found out that I had been saying "for all intents and purposes" incorrectly about 20 years ago. I also did not know what "A.K.A." stood for until around the same time. I know there's a few more but I'll be late for work if i don't get out of here.

Sometimes I think I'm so smart and then I find out I'm really not...

I’m fighting in an ongoing battle between thinking I’m pretty bright and shaking my head at my stupidity.

This begs the question: What does "begs the question" mean in the first place? Literally. o_O

I used to work with a guy who used malapropisms like "all intensive purposes" and the like all the time as humor. One of my faves: "irregardless".

P.S. Yogi Berra is my hero.

"intensive purposes" has been one of my pet peeves lately. Several infractions as of late have been from this forum - though I don't remember who and I highly doubt it was you, Torren61.
Well done! I love a man who actually tries to improve himself!

And here I've always thought the expression was, "For all incense and peppermints......"
Shows you where my mind's at....;)

I had a manager who used to say, "That's a mute point."

Lately it seems there's more people who use 'defiantly' when they mean 'definitely' than people who use the correct word.

We had a contractor who used to give presentations once a month. He said "but however" all the time.
I love using that one. Not exactly a malapropism, but I still find it funny.

My favorite short quote from him is (delivered like a half-time coach in a Notre Dame locker room): "Your body is made up of one thing and one thing only! And 90% of it is water!"

    We've all got em!

I actually caught myself "accidentally" saying disinclude the other day, as exclude didn't come to mind. Or at least that's my excuse at the moment...still not sure if its an acceptable word.

As long as everyone keeps saying it wrong for the next couple decades, eventually it’ll be accepted as okay.

For up until a few years ago, I always thought “for the record” meant you said something so many times you were setting a world record for it.
