Hey elektrikdke--On a Gibson ES125, I would go for a dogear P90 with the spacers and go for a drill to install built in volume and tone but then again that's just me. If the bottom end of the P90 polepieces are no longer than the total height of the pickup spacers, you shouldn't need to drill/cut the top apart for the pickup cable to go through. Of course if you are uncomfortable with this in practice you could have the pickup wire come out of the spacers with all the controls mounted in the pickguard which therefore would only require a couple of tny screw holes to hold the pickup and spcers onto the top.
I'm sorry it's taken me a few days, but I have to thank you for what may turn out to be the most helpful post that I've read all year. This is just the sort of info that I have been seeking for months as I've been thinking about modifying my ES-125. I'm not a Tele owner (yet!), and now that I didn't win in the Fundraiser, it will be months before I can even imagine owning a second electric, but I am at a point where your suggestions could help make my Gibby my only necessary electric guitar.
This is what I love about this forum: even if you don't own a Tele, you learn a lot that you can use. I've learned more here than I have anywhere else on the web.
Thanks again. I'll report back once I get your plan moved into a reality on my ES-125.
