Slow Death -72
Little Queenie -72
Nice! Slow Death is my favourite Groovies song.
Saw em in the mid 80's .
the guitar player w shades centre part hair do was playing a replica of Claptons " fool" painted cream era SG
Cyril Jordan. He seemed to get up onstage for the encore of every club show I went to in the SF Bay Area in the early-to-mid '80s, always playing his plexiglass Dan Armstrong guitar. At least once, he was joined by Groovies singer Roy Loney. The band (featuring a lineup that includes Jordan, original bassist George Alexander and Loney's replacement Chris Wilson, singer of "Shake Some Action") has joined The Hoodoo Gurus on their "Dig It Up" tour of Australia.
One of my favorite bands ever.
The "Mark 1" line up for "Flamingo" and "Teenage Head" were always my favorite.
Headin' for the Texas Border is one of my favorite tunes to play and we recently started doing Shake Some Action too. Hoping to add Teenage Head and Slow Death, we already play Tallahassee Lassie. I want to start doing Golden Clouds too, I like that song.
I'm playing Roy Loney & The Phantom Movers first album right now.
I've got a bunch of those albums on vinyl. I picked them up at a Rhino Records parking lot sale in Westwood... nearly a quarter of a century ago! Yikes!
Love that band, first incarnation more but second still great.
I used to have Sneakers, Supersnazz and all that stuff.
I always heard they really weren't accepted in SF by the other bands in the early days.
Roy Loney warmed up for Chuck Prophet for the Temple Beautiful show in San Francisco last year and joined his band when he played the title track of that album. Ciryl joined his band for a tune during the warmup set. It was a great show.
I got to meet Cyril when I worked at South Austin Music.
I saw the guys around that time, as well .. I saw them in the Valley, Brisso,,, a little club on Ann St with an open air courtyard out the back....
I thought they put on a great show .. we had fun, anyway...
One of my old time favorite band. I had the chance to gig and record a CD with Chris Wilson 2 years ago, Chris Wilson Slow Death Live.
Looking forward to seeing them in Sydney at 'Dig it Up' !
The boys at rehearsing couple days before the Japan and australia tour.
I was playing 'Slow Death' with Charlie Pickett last night. That song is a true blast to play.
The B side of the Slow Death's single was also great.
For the fan a nice interview of Chris Wilson on his Flamin' Groovies years.
