I just watched this earlier today;
I think Danos are cool, but never owned one.

What I'd LOVE is if they'd start cranking out some MIK cases with the 5w amp like those old Silvertones had.

The only Danelectro guitar I ever almost bought was a dead on '67 (hornet) reissue from the late 2000s. Alas, GC and Samash locally ran out of lime green and orange, so it never happened.

When I started, thier pedals were stupid cheap, and sounded good. A very cool thing to be in 1999.
Garbage plastic shells, but really good pedals.

But seriously, why don't they get amps made to thier old specs at the Korean factory? Supro is having success in the "weird 60s" style of amps, the Vaporizer looked like it shoulda been a Dano (probably would have sounded better as a 6v6 powered Montgomery Ward amp with a Dano pedal esque gain channel...) .
No, the mini amp and $150 SS thing dont count. I mean the pawn shop chic nonsense Dan Auerbach or Jack White made cool again. Would be nice to see in production.

I know many of you appreciate the work of Five Watt World.

I had a Korean U2 in black and miss it. Stolen. Love Dano guitars.

I swear ( from the Eastwood guitar demos) I LOVE EVERYTHING I've ever heard RJ Ronquillo play.
He has taste and tone ( and chops)- great player.

I never owned a Danelectro but my best friend at the time had what we called "the Sears guitar". It was a Danelectro with no markings, lipstick pickups, open tuners and it sounded great. Damn good guitar.

I've never played one, but I'd probably dig the Convertible, play it unplugged around the house- I bet it puts out a funky little acoustic sound
The pickup pivots, right? ( maybe not)

Pickup only adjusts for height. And yes, the acoustic sound is... funky. I don’t know how the reissues sound, but I like my old one just fine.

It was a funky for sure, in a good way. The pickup didn't pivot. You can find some videos on YouTube of JJ Cale playing a convertible. I guess he really liked them as he could probably afford to play anything he liked.

Getting a Convertible, would scratch the itch to own a double Cutaway Dano too ( since I own the one, single-cut Dano), along with it being 'acoustic' - someday?

As a buyer, the Convertible has the advantage of not being in as high demand as a lot of the other models, which keeps the prices from being too crazy.

I used to be crazy for Danelectros. They're all gone now except the Dano Pro, which is a true gem.

All-My-Danos-best.jpg

The first electric guitar that I owned looked a lot like the single pickup one, second from the right on the upper level.

In 1964, it cost me $35 brand new, and I had to carry it home without a case. Somebody told me it resembled a porkchop, but I thought it sounded pretty amazing when I finally got to plug it into an amp.

I remember a sticker on the headstock - "Totally Shielded".

That's a '64 Dano Pro, which I still have. The tone of that guitar, either clean or with some dirt, is just beautiful. The bridge is just a thin piece of folded sheet metal. You have only 12 frets. It's tiny. Just completely different than anything else.

Being a history buff, I love Keith's work on 5 Watt World. I confess I was woefully ignorant about Danelectros prior to watching the video. I had no idea, for instance, of the tie-in with Sears and Montgomery Ward.
Just great stuff ... his mini-documentaries on the Telecaster, Stratocaster, Les Paul and others are must see material for anybody interested in how these iconic instruments got developed, who played them, etc.

I've been thinking about getting an acoustic that feels like an electric and stumbled on the Dano Convertible yesterday. Looks cool!

Thanks for posting it guys. I came over to see if I needed to share it...but you beat me to it.

I'll be doing a Short History on "Blackguards" in the next few months. I think of you all every time I think of that project...of course.
Best, Keith

Great Dano piece, thanks!
love mine, you can do anything with one!
